Yeah had mine swapped a few months back. Only issue I had was having to take off my camper shell. Well I guess that was my problem and not theirs. Either way, they swapped it out for me in an hour. Easy peasy. Might as well do your tranny update if you haven't already done so.

Seems to me with that design all will eventually leak down the years.

God forbid the dealer doesn't honor it. Give Toyota Corporate a call, you will be able to speak to someone who will open a case and do the investigation for you. Believe it or not, Toyota Corporate is actually SUPER helpful.

Not sure that is correct. From what I have seen from the threads on here it seems to be mainly a 2016 issue.

I'm planning to leave it alone up until my warranty period, but as soon as im out of warranty, you can bet im putting a bead of clear silicone along the top of that light and calling it a day

i would nor recommend silicone. Use the same product recommended for RV trailers, stays flexible and bonds better to paint.

There is a TSB out for this and it's been discussed on this forum. Do a quick search and bring the printed TSB to your dealer.

TSB's only apply if there is an issue. Yes ? No issue, no TSB performed as far as I know.
Day after warranty it usually leaks.

Mine is in the shop for the second time on this issue. First time they just replaced it with another faulty assembly.
Dealership acknowledged their error and are now replacing with correct assembly part number and putting in a new headliner. All covered by 36month/36K warranty. If you have an extended platinum warranty it will also cover the repair.
    Bad part # 81570-04040
New improved hopefully none leaking assembly part # 81570-04050

TSB covers vehicles produced BEFORE the production change effective VINs
    3TM######JM141428
    5TF######JX137401
    TSB states
Some 2016-2018 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with an LED type high center mount stop lamp may exhibit a water leak into the rear cab.

This TSB came out July 2, 2018.
DO NOT put silicone or any other type of sealer on the assembly. It will void the warranty as an attempt at a permanent fix. The dealer has to send the defective assembly back to Toyota to be paid for the replacement. My dealership told me to put clear thick packaging tape over the assembly until the parts came in to prevent leaking. It can easily be removed.
Check you headliner for water mark damage just above the rear window. I fortunately had waterproof seat covers on so my seats did not get wet.

You would think Toyota would have enough financial sense to replace these substandard parts, especially on vehicles with a 7 year warranty.
It's a good bet for $100 for them to replace it now rather than faced with $1000 headliner etc down the road within 7 years imo.

Even if it's later than 2016 when they were using the "superseded" part, years 2017 onward are victims.
This imo will be a problem for them in the long run.
