it's been great watching the MT community develop in 3gen beyond just BS'ing, which is cool too... but appreciation for helping us with projects and improvements!

That is the truth. A ton of help and great mods getting kicked out. The easy evidence is all the Tactrix cables that get loaned around.

My personal record is 31.2 mpg driving 24 miles from Purgatory to Durango at 60mph. 2300' elevation loss in total, or about 95' per mile, with almost no uphill segments. Basically coasting the whole way.

I get it. Just like I love to spin the crank to get my windows to go down in my Mustang. Or the similar thrill I get when I spin the dial on my AM radio. There is just something special about fine tuning in that station that you can't get with a digital radio. Modernizing is awful.

lol dude your completely overselling this idea. Everything else is modern in the truck. It would be one thing if it was never updated or something. The new manuals have also been improved ya know.. hill assist, synchros just to name a few. Only difference is you push down one pedal and move your other hand sometimes... never met someone who believed manuals were in the stone age.

If you seriously worship technology or modernity to the extent you're portraying, I hope you own a Tesla and not a Tacoma. Anything less would be hypocritical.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Get what you want, I daily drove a manual taco for quite awhile but personally they're just not as fun as a sports car with a manual like my Mustang. So I traded it for an auto and never looked back. My "office" is also a Kenworth W900 with a 13 speed and after driving that tank around all day the last thing I wanna do is shift more gears when I get into my personal vehicle.

If you feel you want the manual even a little bit, GET IT. It is well worth the effort to find one. Don’t make the same mistake I did, you’ll end up with a manual in the end

Get the AT and don't listen to little voices inside your head, they can really get you into trouble, imo.

Jk, just test drive the shit out of as many different Tacos as you can, and get whatever you think is most suited to your needs- if you aren't happy, get something else.

    Good luck!

    Manual. No question.

I’m following the accumulator delete thread for that eventual mod. I also swapped out my trans oil for the motorcraft stuff which made a nice improvement in the way of smoother shifts.

I have owned a lot of cars, 30+ cars. With the exception of the first 3 beaters, every one I’ve owned has been a manual if it were available with one. Even if I were looking for winter beaters, back in the day where I had to look in the classifieds, I would call about that 1983 Civic that needs transmission work for $300, “is it a stick?” And so on...

same here. and then recently we had to get a new family vehicle for the kids, a 3 row SUV type thing. NO MT's!!! strangely tho i'm pretty happy with what we got. letting its AT shift for me is just something i'll never get used to. cus i can, and always will, do it better.

If it's not an obvious decision for you, whichever one you end up buying, you should have bought the other one.

Stock tires and no mods, set cruise to 65mph in 6th gear. No hills.

    Brilliant!

OP, whatever you decide, buy it and log off TW.....unless you buy the MT, since every other MT Taco owner hangs here.

Seriously, I get it, MT is a better driving experience. I drove MT exclusively my whole driving life. The cool factor when somebody would get in my truck......"you drive an MT, you are so cool...."(sarcasm).

However, being in a situation where I am the only one who can drive my MT, like an emergency situation....really not great.

Getting older and after a few work related injuries the MT looses some luster.

The AT in this Taco is pretty damn nice....engine braking is a nice feature.

Plus, if every single person here told op to get MT, that is really useless advice, since op is the only one who knows what is the best transmission....

Ok, let the MT mutual admiration society meeting reconvene...
