I got tired of pulling my skid plate off everytime I changed my oil. So I installed a remote oil filter system.
Now can run full size Ford oil filters.
I now have an analog oil filter gauge, not an idiot light.
And it holds 6.5 quarts of oil in the system.
And for the first time in over a year, I have all my skid plates back on.

Kind of starts around #584 with weighing the truck. Pictures start around #646. I'm not the best at documenting everything so if you have any questions feel free to ask and hopefully I'll remember what I did. It's not a difficult project just a little overwhelming finding small things that need to be tweaked that you hadn't thought about.

What exactly does an oil filter guage measure? You mean oil pressure?

I have spacers but my wheel's don't lend themselves to going much further out. I would love a wheel that eliminates my spacers but that's much harder to find. I hated needing to loctite my spacers on my last trail cv swap. Added another 10 mins or so. I still haven't reached @IDtrucks speed level of trail cv swaps.

Not super likely you'll find a wheel that offset unless you go to a 10'' wide wheel.

Ive never loctited the spacer, just used ET Lugs and torqued. Been rock solid.

You would just mount it to the wheel well or somewhere in the bay. You don't want it super far from the original spot. Common mod for car guys too.

Why do you think its not possible to mount in the bay with this?

Probably just cause he didn’t put it in the bay.

The wheel well seems like a weird place to me.

ah i missed the photo. yeah not sure Id put it where he did either. I meant the wheel well on the inside of the bay. Should be room for that though would indeed be tight.

I'm mounting the one on my Z to a shock tower, depending on what quality of AN fittings you get to can actually position them pretty easily. But that hose he has looks like a nightmare to bend haha

285/75 16 so I think 11.5 wide? I'm betting it would fit with a 35 but itll have to be a skinnier 35

Yeah the shock is way more forward like others have said so that helps clear

Not anymore, I have stuffed to much crap in there already.
I can always add a shield if it becomes a concern.

Which FORD oil filter fits this?
Also the NAPA hoses were AN fittings with the associated male fittings with correct threads/diameter.

This would be a GREAT kit if someone would put it together.... cough cough -> @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc

    Edit:
    cuz reading is hard... :anonymous:

Filter (fits Fram PH8A or HP1 Oil Filters)

It was an FL-1A for a 302 I used to have
And I went with 5/8 hydraulic hose.

Got my Saturday planned. Plugs and wires, oil change, clean the air filter, PCV valve and hose replacement, oil change for both diffs, transfer case and transmission.

The truck started hesitating and threw a P0304 code. Started the truck, pulled the spark plug boot for #4 and the spark would exit the side of the boot when held next to the block.

Ok, so we're 6 hours into a trip to Oregon, and I'm hearing a weird noise. Here are the details:

Sounds like something that isn't normally spinning, starts spinning very fast (a whine). ...Almost like a bad bearing that suddenly engages.
    • It's intermittent.
    • Happens at speed (62mph) - we're only on the highway so far. Has happened a handful of times.
    • Generally lasts 3-10 seconds
    • Whine/speed of sound decreases as engine speed decreases (clutch in, slowing down)
    • Sometimes ends with a clunk, that you can feel in the truck (@mrs.turbodb can feel it).
    • Other times seems like it just disengages and everything goes back to normal.
    • Seems to be coming from passenger side of engine compartment or/near firewall
Doesn't seem to be any of the pulleys at the front of the engine bay - belts all seem tight.

I don't know anything really, but could it be the starter somehow engaging? And the clunk in the drivetrain is disengagement?

What should I do to debug further? I've never been able to get the sound to keep going long enough to fully stop and investigate.

We're going to keep going for now unless there's a good reason to stop/head home.

    Thoughts?
