I drove through Ely, NV thinking I don't need to stop, I can make Tonopah. Then I saw the sign outside Ely that said something like "Next Gas: 167 miles". Looked at my cluster "152 miles to empty". Thinking, "well. I have 4 gallons in the Rotopaxs"... nah, turned around and went back to Ely and got gas at Love's. Wasn't gonna risk getting stuck out there in the middle of nowhere.

Wanted to camp in Alabama Hills but got there an hour after sunset. Really didn't want to be driving around offroad in the dark on unfamiliar trails so grabbed a motel room in Lone Pine for the night and decided to explore Alabama Hills at sunrise.

Driving north on 395 to Sonora Pass I see a sign for Manzanar Historic Site. Decided to take the auto tour. Having grown up with the horror stories (from my mom and dad who experience it in person) of what the Japanese did to Filipinos and Americans during WW2, I tended to be blase about the ordeals the Japanese-Americans suffered in that same period. This place got me teary-eyed thinking of the injustice the internees went through. It wasn’t quite the despair and desperation I felt visiting Dachau, and the Japanese somehow made beauty out of the bleakness of that high desert with their gardens and ponds, but it still had that haunted feeling of suffering and loneliness.

It's the 6ft "long bed". I was realistic about how much "offroadin" I'm actually gonna do and opted for being able to sleep in the bed instead of increased maneuverability (of the short bed).

Wasn't mine but I was seriously impressed with it. My buddy had it up in like 15 seconds before I could even get my awning unzipped. Seemed to be of pretty good construction and materials too. If I was still sleeping on the ground I would buy one.

This reminds me of the Allegiance musical my wife and I saw in L.A. and the stories my old 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Tabuchi, told us about.

Finally get to post here! Wife, two dogs and I spent 3 nights in the Chattahoochee NF, Cherokee, NC, and Nanatahala NF. Didn't take enough pics, but had a great time.
First Morning at home, packing up:

Had a little rain the second morning, so the pups curled up on the platform while we packed:

2nd night. Staying at Indian Creek Campground in Cherokee, NC. Were right next to a small but very loud stream. I set up the Slumberjack later but didn't take a pic:

Final campground on Lake Santeelah. Can't wait to go back here, we'll make sure to bring the canoe next time:

    Got myself a crappie:

We went to NC in June, did the entire Biltmoore estate. Cool places along the way. I’d like to go back in the Tacoma with kayaks, fishing gear, and such. There are streams and rivers everywhere.

We swung through downtown Asheville once, and ran into a hippie festival. Looked similar to Woodstock pics

We did a similar trip (3 nights, different park each night) back in the spring and ended up in Asheville at the end, where we spent 3 more nights. We had a great time. Really cool town up there. Lots of good food and beer.

    Typical day in Asheville. LOL!

I saw a bumper sticker at the VA in Asheville once.
"Asheville wasn't weird before you got here."

That is in response to the many bumper stickers that say:
    "Keep Asheville weird."

Some say there is a secret tunnel between Asheville and Portland Oregon.

Dang, that looks like a spendy setup. That modular bed rack is sweet with that tent

It works really well. I camped 37 days straight in it.

That looks like the RTT is the length of the short bed. Is it long enough to sleep in?
