TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

So many guys from the supercharger group buy thread had no issues at all with the Bully Dog tune. My truck however was giving Bully Dog a big middle finger. It did not like it what so ever!

In a way, I’m glad that I went through all of that because it forced me to learn more about the truck and eventually sent me further down the rabbit hole of mods.

 

What if I told you I'm still running the Bully Dog tune underneath UCON?

 

Man I wish. I have 9-13mpg truck. 9-11 towing and 11-13 just driving. Both dependent on if I am going 65ish or 80ish. Tomorrow morning I will be getting the 11ish towing the camper to elk camp. Cheers

 

I remember when that happened and it makes me wonder if you had a bad load from BD.

My Toyota Dealer had issues getting the correct load into the flash module, do I had to take over and worked with BD Tech on getting the correct setup. I still think they have as much potential as anyone else, but due to the initial run and group buy, they may have rushed things. Of course I truly have no real idea and the still may suck, with a few of us getting lucky.

Time will tell.

 

All this talk about tunes, am I crazy for buying another ovtune handheld? My dad really wants me to upload a tune on his truck lol.

 

BD has blown up a couple of trucks in the testing process for tuning Toyota's. Worked for me, I made money it. And pretty sure they did it on purpose with my General Managers boosted Tundra. But it made a ton of power before blowing the head gasket. And for anyone that talked to their tech department, I may very well know who you talked to. Great people, especially the founders. But every all of that, I would never run their tune on a toyota. They are all diesel people. Hardcore. And that is a whole different world.

 

Do you like yours?

I still haven't decided how I feel about them... I want a tune.. but from what I've been trying to follow when I can.. is it's kinda mixed reviews?

 

If I was stupid and installed the BD tune?

 

I talked to some younger guy, roughly 2 years ago. Odd/uncommon name (ie, not Mike or John) and he was very helpful, by staying at work late to make sure I was taken care of.

So the Allen size for the bypass valve is 3/32" or the metric equivalent. Mine was simple to adjust. Not sure if it's any better as the sound hasn't really changed. We'll see.

 

I love mine but ovtune actually dyno tuned my truck and flashed it there without a handheld, so my results are going to be best case scenario. For all I know the tune he made me is what everyone else is running. Which for my dad’s truck that will work because we have the same mods.

 

Whole thread is random at the moment. Bully Dog?! Is that still a thing? You should confess to a priest: “what if I told you...”. Nobody admits to the BD tune.

Was the bully dog tune offered at toyota with the trd stamped s/c?

 

Iirc BD worked with Magnuson AFTER Toyota pulled the plug on sales and Magnuson bought the rights.
So, no the BD tune never existed when the trd labeled blower was in production.
