Opinion on these mountain bike shoes

I was searching around for some SPD compatible shoes for mountain biking, as well as indoor cycling.

I found these shoes for what seems to be a good price, and wanted to see if anyone has any experience with these shoes and/or with the quality of the brand.

I currently do not ride clipless on my MTB, but will be converting over sooner or later, and i thought these would be good for now since they have the "plug" over where the cleat would go, and i could add the cleat when ready, and/or add the cleat to use them for the occasional ride on the indoor cycle.

There are some other ones on this site that are much cheaper, but they do not have my size, so let me know what you think.

The downside to laces is you have to tuck them in on the drive side. Check nashbar's return policy as well just in case you don't like them.

The lace thing didn't even cross my mind, but now i am thinking the same as you....

 

I've had a pair of cannondale shoes w/ laces for the past six years and it is a pain to tuck the laces into the shoe. But they are comfortable to ride in as well as "hike a bike" so I can't justify buying a new pair.

might want to look around at your LBS so you can try them on. i just went clipless and was looking hard online to save a few bucks. ended up spending a little more on some specialized bg's. glad i did since the size that fit best ended up being a size smaller than i normally wear in shoes.

 

So i tried on a few pairs and then ended up ordering the 661's I linked above.
I called to make sure i can return them if they don't fit, or dont like them, it will be no problem!

Did it work out? I wanted to chime in but it looks like you already made the purchase. I have the best of both worlds. My shoes are laces but with one velcro strap across the top to keep the laces in place. Plus these shoes are wide and strong at the bottom which seams to provide more pedaling power when pushing down. I felt the pressure in my old shoes. These that I have now distribute the force across the foot. Be sure to ride with them as well.

 

So far they seem to be working out. I have only used them on the indoor cycle so far, but at some point in the near future i will be changing over my mountain bike, so i will be able to get "real" use out of them!

 

Are you doing a spin class then?
