Hasn't done it again, yet. Drive time was slightly under 3 hours. Clearly I'm using Ben's solution.:D
    • Fan clutch looks and feels fine.
    • Rear axle seals look fine.
    • I don't notice any difference in the U joints or carrier bearing, compared to previous inspections.
    • plan to jack up front of truck and check front wheel bearings for play when we get to camp.
    Thanks again for everyone's ideas.

I had my passenger side front wheel bearing go out on me on a long highway trip last month, I didn't notice anything weird or wrong with it while cruising (no odd sounds or feeling) until I got off the highway, and by then it was so bad that the brakes on that side were nuked and I nearly lost brake pressure entirely lol. I could hear the grinding then especially around turns, but it was definitely a low grumble/grind sound not a squeal or anything like that. I was fortunate I was near my destination when I realized what was happening and a shop was right there off the exit. Just my experience but it doesn't sound like your's is a wheel bearing issue, but nonetheless can't hurt to rule it out.

Just happened. @mrs.turbodb got a recording of it as we slow down. Speed of the whine did not change as I changed from 5th to 4th to 3rd gears, rather the pitch changed as the truck slowed.

You can also hear a bit of a clunk at the end, which was the whine stopping.

Note: rename file by removing zip extension. It is not a zip file, but TW doesn't allow m4a uploads.

Finally adding the last Rear 3” SS Brake Line from LCE, and the BPV Drop from BAMF after completing my lift.

My Husky worklight died, and I just so happened to have a spare ‘98 headlight and DC Power Supply laying around, so here’s what I came up with.

Needs to be downloaded on computer, then renamed only (NOT UNZIPPED). it was recorded on an iPhone so may be some weird apple codec.

Plays in chrome for me on the phone. If no one can get it working, I'll convert it when I get home.

    That doesn't sound good.

Im not certain of what it is though. When you stay in gear and accelerate does the pitch go up with speed increased?

    I have mods
Bought this 1999 Tacoma TRD today. Basically stock but has Toytec lift springs in front and Bilstein 5100 shocks along with the 16" Method wheels and 285 tires. Just shy of 315,000 miles on it. Recently had the timing belt and water pump replaced as well as new ball joints and some other things done. Runs great, drives great. Few minor details need fixed. Pretty happy with it overall. Mods will come slowly.
