Updated the map! Just got home. They gave me the health check results... and if I'm reading this right - it says right on it that there's an update. I showed the guy the number and where it was on the TSB and he just kept saying it didn't apply...

I had mine at Rodland after sideloading the update. I heard not a single peep.

Great idea, man! I'm sorry that I don't have anything to add though.

    Thanks!

Sorry, but 04A70 is the old tune (first row in your pic). You're looking for 04A71. So yeah, they lied to you.

If you happen to borrow a cable, I'd be happy to help with the update.

UPDATE... so I have been going through the thread adding dealers that will, and dealers that won't, to the map. I am on page 90 now, and there was 58 posts with "Dealer did/didn't do it" but no dealer info listed :(

If you've made such a post, please consider updating the map with the location and result. Do the search, and select the check box for the status, then select "add to map". You can change the color to red for bad, green for good, and press the pencil icon to edit the tag and add a comment linking to the post.

Anyway, back to reading all the posts.... sigh

Well, here you go! Green is dealers that will do it, and red is ones that won't.

If anyone is looking in the Edmonton Alberta area I was able to get the update done at Gateway Toyota with no hassle.

Alright so I was a the dealer today and decided to pull the trigger on this one......I've got a 17MT and didn't quite every get the 25mph-40mph "surge" everybody was talking about that triggered this TSB in the first place, but I figured I'd get it anyway. If it's good enough for @tonered it's good enough for me.

    Turns out......SUPER FUCKING GREAT

I used to have this more-than-occasional "lugging" between 1st and 2nd that I chalked up to sloppy clutch work / that stupid accumulator and let me tell you, in 5min I could tell the difference. The new programing is much more linear at the lower gears / RPMs and feels much better. So glad I jumped on this.

I specifically did TSB-0125-18 for the '16-'17 MTs (so the ECU software 04B12 gets updated to 04B13)

The tech at the dealer was hesitant to do it (he was familiar with the TSB for ATs but not MTs) so it was a good thing I had it printed out and highlighted! I told him I was getting the surging (didn't want him to deny me) but I think he would have been fine with it once he saw the actual TSB and that it specifically called out the MT. Apparently they've been doing this TSB for the ATs and they've been hit or miss.....since the whole power band adjusts, it seems to fix one shifting problem but cause others? Who cares, we've got stick shifters!

The dealer was Rudy Luther Toyota here in MN......it's marked as RED on that google map.....now that I was able to get it done, should we make it green? Yellow because it's hit or miss?

    uhhhh....dog fur?
I am sitting at IRA toyota, Danvers Mass, and came in for my fan motor recall thing and also put on the list the TSB update. Jacob just asked to see the TSB and said not a problem. part way through the appointment he came out already and said that they not only need to do the software update but also a new clutch assembly. He said, or was being told to tell me, that the clutch assembly is the reason it was surging and stumbling.

But....the update should be done in a bit, then I get to come back for the clutch pieces......

edit: literally an hour later. Jacob (poor kid stuck in the middle) came out and said that the clutch parts were on order and the fan recall was fixed. I asked about the software update, he said it was part of the clutch fix. I pointedly asked how when I complained about the response of the accelerator and that has nothing to do with the clutch. (I am guessing Jacob might not know how to drive a stick).
He tried to tell me that it was all set, but I again asked to see that the upgrade was done. He couldn't but started to put it on the tech saying it was not needed. I handed him the TSB print out and said "here is the point where the upgrade is needed for the Manual, that shows that Toyota knows this needs to be done". He brought the printout into the bay and came right back out saying "The tech is pulling the truck back into the shop right now to do this"...........
I was already soured on this dealership, but the only reason I came to get a taco was my subie Baja was needing more $ than I could justify....but the fact that Toyota in general is wearing blinders on this is amazing......

Last update.... Home now. Figured out that Jacob did a really bad version explaining my compliant and reasoning for the update to the tech. IRA is one of those huge dealerships where you (customer) never dirty your eyeball with the vision of a technician, so we played a game of telephone until I gave them the tsb.
The tech even write in the documentation that this upgrade will not change shifting (well fricken durrrrr)...

But... Oh my... Any hesitation of acceleration is gone. Step on pedal = go go go
Adding Danvers mad to the map that did it, not certain if you could walk in without the tsb in hand and have them do it, but mine is done..... Now I just need to get the clutch fix done, which I did not know I even had......I just heard a squeak so I must have caught it early....

Finally, I had chance to drive through a mountain range highway, which had really challenged the old tune’s ability to hold speed in 5th and 6th on inclines

The new tune handled this same mountain range with ease.

I really need to get that done, would be nice to climb hills without losing so much speed.

That is great to hear! I'm glad that you are thrilled!

BTW, on this current tank, I'm seeing about 22mpg running 300lb and 400lb+ loads in shitty congestion. This is the second tank after clearing out the 92 octane. My advice, stick with regular gas with this tune.

Oh goodness! It's great that you got the update, but dang. If it comes with a new, free clutch, I suppose it was worth that little rodeo?

Similar here. There is a small power bump with the tune.

    !!!

We’re on Winter gas now and I’m struggling to stay near 18MPGs!
