I’m decently familiar with the area if you want me to lead...I just go slow because I’m stock height and touch the bottom on everything haha

That’s fine with me! I’m in no rush tomorrow. I was planning on being up top for an hour or so. Was even thinking of bringing some wood for a small fire

Had a quick emissions inspection question for us Virginians. I bought my tacoma new in October of 2017. My safety tag on window said oct 2018 and on the license plate said November 2018. The attendant comes to drive car into the bay and I tell him to do safety and emissions. I go grab breakfast and come back and he put an October 2019 stick on the windshield and said I didn’t have to do the emissions since it’s only a year old. He said new cars are exempt for 3 or 4 years.

    So my questions are this:
    1) is this true?
    2) if so, how do I get the new year sticker for the license plate so I’m not driving around with 2018 on my plates?

    1) Yes it's true.
    2) That's your registration sticker on the tag. You need to renew your registration.

You’ve got to renew your registration with DMV. They’ll tell you if you need emissions or not.

I just did my safety inspection a few weeks ago and the dude told me that VA recently changed the laws on new vehicles. He said they are exempt for longer. He may have said 4 years.
    Edit: for emissions.

I actually thought I read a few days ago that it was 5 years....but I could be totally wrong on that.

Maybe he said i had 4 more years. Which would mean 5 years. So that makes sense

    We are both right....strangely enough

"In most cases, if your vehicle is less than four model years old, you do not need the emissions inspection until it is five model years old."

    Good to know.

I’ve lived in Virginia for 15 years but this was my first new car in the state. So I never exerpienced that.

Its also a recent change. I bought my taco brand new in aug 09 and had to do emissions every 2 years from the day i bought it.

That’s surprising that they would do something that would lower tax revenue.

Paying a shop to test your emissions does not generate revenue for the state.

I moved to Fauquier in 2000 and learned they don't have to do emission testing. Had I known that earlier, I would have moved out of NoVa much earlier.
