Not just that but anything the car depends on to do or not do when the door is open, will no longer function as required. There can be saftey related issues not apparent to us just yet. Some cars don’t let you shift out of park if the door is open to prevent the vehicle from rolling over you, I don’t think our Tacoma’s have that function but you get my point. Another example is the vehicle doesn’t let you “lock” from the fob when the door is open. Not detrimental. But at the end of the day, this method bypasses the door opening to prevent shutting down the engine, but as soon as you press the door brake, it will still turn off and require you to restart a PTS, so unless you like to open and close the door to load or unload without stopping the engine, it really serves no other purpose.

I have something. Just need to speak on comfort level of install. Won’t sell to anyone who isn’t experienced or comfortable with a few things. Members on here already have done it using the HKEY version I’m selling. It entails a few extra wires than just the TPMS. I have instructions already and a few that have done it and about to do it as reference. There are some stipulations on sequence for it to be remote start ready too.

Just installed mine. Very easy, was done in about 15 minutes. Wish I took pics of how I routed it. My OCD kicked in and I tried making it look like it belonged.

All, I'm having trouble getting the cell add-on to work. I first installed the 3x keyfob system and verified it worked. That was easy/not a problem. Hooray for first time adding anything electrical to the truck.

I then hooked up the smart module per the video instructions. I noticed the smart module has lights solid red & green. Here's where I've run into trouble.

    1. I can no longer start the truck with the keyfob. (Does the cell system replace the keyfob approach?)
    2. I haven't gotten an email or anything with an account for the MyCar app.

Have any of you guys tried to install the smart module?

I was able to get it working again. I went through all the programming steps again for both system so I must have skipped a step in the smart module part. I was also able to register the app with the module...finally. The thing is the app is buggy.

Ok so here's my thoughts on the kit. This is for the push to start system and smart module.

    Install time: 30 mins - 2 hours*
    Install difficulty: Easy
Value: This is a good deal. This set up would have cost a few hundred more had I bought through a local dealer and paid for their "professional" install.

    * I've never done anything like this before, never even removed the bottom dash/trim components before. I worked slowly, checking and double checking things. I also had to do some trouble shooting when I incorrectly set up the smart module.

Push Start Module Harness Quality (5/5)
    1. Some versions came wrapped in electrical tape or something. Mine was wrapped in a fabric tape. Actually using shrink tubing would have been a grand slam.
    2. All the connectors had the right color coding and were clearly labeled.
    3. Wires are long enough to stash them how you want. I'm not expert on this stuff, so I just stashed them in a way that "worked".

    Remote Start Module (5/5)
    1. Was stupidly simple to program after following the provided install video.
    2. I've tested it quite a few times and its worked fine.

    Cell-based Smart Module (5/5)
    1. GPS location is spot on.
    2. Seems to connect up to the cell network just fine.

    Cell-based Smart Module Harness (5/5)
    1. Shrink tubing is used.
    2. All connectors are correctly color coded.
    3. Long enough wires, honestly a little bit too long. Better than the alternative though.

    "MyCar" Smart App (5/5)
    1. Door locking works and it does show the correct state if you lock the vehicle not using the phone. Note that it can take a moment to update the state on the phone. There's lots of factors there like connectivity, pushing state to their servers etc.
    3. Remote start through the app seems to work 100% of the times I've tested it. That's been about 6 times so far.
    5. Voltage meter is a nice to have.
    6. I haven't tried the timed auto-cutoff yet.
    7. GPS location matches what I'd expect to see on the map.

    N2's Communication/Helpfulness (5/5)
    1. Talked constantly through the ordering process. Answered all my questions.
    2. He sent me the install instruction videos after I'd neglected to find them in an earlier email.
    3. Jay got in touch with me just a few minutes ago (on a Saturday) and got everything worked out. Somehow I had entered back into the mode he uses to set things up. He walked me through getting it back to the way it should be. :hattip:

TL;DR for Millennials and Other Impatient People
It's a reasonably priced good setup. Install was for the most part simple for a noob. MyCar App works fine. I was on the fence about whether or not to do the smart module. Main motivation for getting that option is sometimes I'm way outside of fob range (e.g. deep in an office somewhere or getting my luggage at the airport), etc. The secondary reason was I thought I could kill two birds with one stone: extended remote start and vehicle tracking. I park my truck outside and so if someone decided they wanted it really bad I've got an inconspicuous way to track it's location.

Check your PM and call me, you should NOT be in test mode. You need to release and re add. It’s not buggy unless reception is not good, you’re still in test mode, and keep in mind all of you after the install, a firmware will be pushed to your smart device without you knowing that will take 30minutes. After driving around, your app will be dead on! And especially after a day or so as long as you don’t go anywhere with bad reception for about 5 hours until the unit registers with the factory servers and is permanently imprinted as yours. During the firmware push there will be latency, like trying to watch 10 YouTube videos while playing a high demand game on a non gaming laptop manufactured before there was a video card that could handle all that. Best analogy I could give. Also, keep in mind, if your cell phone has poor signal reception or your Wi-Fi signal isn’t great and/or your vehicle is in a poor reception area for the device’s 3g signal, these all play into effect. You wouldn’t try to judge a choppy YouTube video on your phone in the middle of the woods. It’s given that everything signal based is biased on signal strength.

Also, it will be normal for the vehicle to disappear once or twice from the app, just add it again using the 16 digit code and you will be solid forever! Call me and let’s take these “bugs” outta your system. I wouldn’t sell it if it were truly like that and even more so use it personally on my own Tacoma!

The only other bug that “may exist” that I’ll awknowledge is that (will be fixed with app update revs and some may not even see this) is that I programmed all of your run times for 15 minutes, but the app may show 30 minutes for the timer, this is not true so don’t be alarmed.

After speaking with Ben above, we solved all the perceived opinions! I am for 5/5 for everyone and everything or else:

    A. I lose sleep
    B. I get anxiety
    C. Wouldn’t sell it
    D. Wouldn’t use it myself

Make sure to PM me, or call me if you think something or things aren’t up to your standards or my advertised quality. I’ll see why that is a resolve it for you before you form and so so opinions! I give out my personal cell to customers because my business name and perception is more important than profit. Ask those I’ve already helped!

Thanks Ben! Glad you’re satisfied now that we spoke and got through your pain points!

I received my order from N2 Designs and installed everything, pretty straightforward plug and play set up. I did run into some issues with programming but Jimmy was very helpful walking me through getting it all set up. I had tons of questions before my purchase and Jimmy gave me his personal cell so I could call him directly. Awesome Guy! Now everything is all connected and working as is should. Great remote start system for a great price!

I have no idea. If you're running a 3rd gen with push button start it's completely plug and play. So if worse came to worse you could simply return it to factory and they would probably never know.

No, this will not void your warranty; and:

    A. The whole thing behind plug ‘n’ play is that you can take it off as quickly as you put it on if you ever want to go to a dealer for warranty reasons.

    B. Their are Toyota dealerships nationwide that are using the same brand hardware i sent you. But charging you $800 for it.

    C. And the thousands sold locally not one remote startsr has caused any issues to the vehicle & not one remote starter has ever come back after being installed defective for warranty itself.

To summarize, we all know dealerships like to scape goat, it’s not a secret. So when in doubt just take it off then go, there is no history of it being there or data logged. So legally a dealership can not void a warranty if the device is not physically there. So with PTS especially because it is 100% plug ‘n’ play.

With that said, I urge you to find me on Tacoma owner on this forum that has run into these assumptions being made above.

If anyone has any doubt or questions I am always happy to answer them regardless if you’ve purchased or not. I stand behind what I sell a 110% and wouldn’t have it on my own personal vehicle if I had any doubt.
