Yup, auto manufacturers are required to reach a fleetwide average fuel economy for all cars and light trucks.

Daily drove a 2008 Element SC for 10 years before the Tacoma. Compared to a compact SUV, my 3rd gen has plenty of pick up and go, I'm also not trying to race anyone from stop light to stop light. I find myself more hypermiling than trying to get from point A to point B as fast as possible.

The crawl control equipped models use an electric hydraulic pump for the brakes instead of the more traditional vacuum assist. This makes the pedal touchy because there is a delay in pump activation and pressure build. Once the pump boosts the pressure the pedal is fairly linear like any other but the initial application can be very aggressive until you learn to ease into it until the pump activates.

I swap between a work truck and my FJ with CC daily and first couple stops at the end of the day almost puts all my junk in the cab against the windshield. And the first couple stops in my work truck almost always puts me over the line. Also makes the abs damn touchy.

And not only that, they will also auto-stop and go back down if anything is in the way - like a dog or a kid.

Update: I just test drove a 2019 Sport - it feels much, much better. Not perfect, it still "jumps" when I hit the gas too much because of an uneven curve - but I felt it being much better and I actually enjoyed driving it.

I have a dealer right down the road and the salesman was very cool and just let me drive it right away. We didnt talk numbers but he offered me an extended test drive tomorrow. I told him "Im just interested in the engine/tranny right now, options later."

Quick, and surprisingly the 19 is different from all three 18's.

Went from total dog shit to "much much better"......

    Weird......

I ate a Big Mac last week, wasn’t very good. I ate one today and it’s much much better.

A 2019 is 1 better than any 2018 and 2 better than my 2017. Proven facts.

Perception is everything. I’ve only had a 3rd gen w/3.5 but from all the comments I’ve seen on TW the 4.0 probably whined and groaned from the second you stomped on the gas making it seem like it was faster.

If you’re looking for a speedy midsize truck, the Ranger will be out in January. I’m not impressed with it from what I’ve read/seen thus far. And I had two which I loved before my Taco...which I too love.
