wont matter as soon as the Ford Ranger Raptor hits the market it will be all over for Toyotas mid size truck dominance, there will probably be a Diesel option for the Ranger in the future also

Someone posted TFL Truck interviewing the Ford chief engineer and he basically said the Tacoma was better.

my brother in laws uncle twice removed had a 1983 Ford Ranger the thing could tow a horse trailor with 5 quarter horses in it, 5 bales of hay in the bed and it still got 25 mpgs, lets see if the Tacoma could do that, highly doubt it.

No difference in the hardware and peak numbers, I'll believe that.

You DO know that Toyota just updated their calibrations a couple of months ago, right?

Although I'm not entirely convinced of OP's story, it possible that the '18's he test drove had the older software (depends on build date) and the '19s have the new stuff. By all accounts, it would make a noticeable difference in DRIVEABILITY.

I can only speak from a M/T perspective (same as you), but the updated code was much better than what my truck shipped with.

Until you are above 60mph. Then it doesn’t do shit.

Around town though, it’s a life saver.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
The reason people complain is because even the older ones didn't feel as lame and weak as the current ones. Yes none of them have ever been drag race champions, but most of them didn't feel as if they were having an emotional crisis everytime you ask it to accelerate.

Just watched the video. He did not say the Tacoma was better. He acknowledged the strength of the Tacoma brand, reliability, etc. but never said they were better. That is the professional way to talk about a competitor.

The Ranger looks nice to me. Interior and exterior look good. I am not familiar with the engine and 10 speed tranny but it had better be smooth as glass.

Bet they sell a shit ton and take Tacoma share.

That's what people said when the GM twins were re-introduced. I'm not sure where the saturation level is, but I guess we'll see soon enough.
