I bought my biggest forstner bit to date... 2.5" circle! I made/making some custom napkin holders that have salt pepper holder on one side, napkins in the middle and tapatio (hotsauce on the other, this is where I used the forstner bit)I'll post a pic later.

The blades are relatively easy to change. I have a Delta also but its blueish green color. They are good machines.

 

I need to give it a run down and see the blades Are any good.

 

the black cover on the back side is what comes off to check/change the blades. has 2 small wingnuts on mine and it comes out kind of clunky like but you dont need to take apart anything. I didnt have the manual so I had to figure it out.

Great looking table! Love the curve on the tops of the legs and how they taper. Did you do that all by hand? Any pics of the process?

 

So for the furniture makers, I have a question that seems logical in my brain but I want to make sure it makes sense. I got plans for a china/hutch cabinet, The width is just a bit too wide to fit in the space I need. If I were to cut 2" off the width The tops should be easy no brainer. But the doors---IM thinking cut them down by and inch a piece and it should function like the original plans, correct? Also reduce any horizontal measurement/piece by 2". The height is fine, I hope this makes sense. Otherwise I will have to find a different plan.

 

How wide is the cabinet on the existing plans? If you are not reducing the width by too much, your plan will work fine. You just don't want to shrink the width by a large percent or it might throw the proportions off and make it look too tall and skinny.

 

the cabinet is 39.75 wide.

I could finally get some light from the side. The bark riverbed is looking great.

 

So that is roughly a 5% reduction in width. Sounds to me like you will be fine trimming it by 2".

 

So did you have a bunch of cans of the stuff or did you mix each batch? also how did you not get bubbles in it? This looks great by the way!

 

Thanks, I bought three two gallon kits. You can only do 1/4" at a time or the chemical reaction of the hardener can cause it to overheat. I mixed about 20 oz (10 epoxy, 10 hardener) in a 32 oz mixing cup added the pigment and stirred it like mad. It has to be mixed really well.

Each 1/4" took about 25-30 oz total or three mixes. The mixing cups and stir sticks are a use one day and done. The bubbles rise to the top in a few minutes and you use a torch to pop them like in the picture above.

The river took just over 3 1/2 gallons to finish. I had used some on the control panel for the CNC I posted in the 3D thread. I bought the third kit a few days ago since I knew I was going to need more. If I have some leftover I will definitely use this product over any nice wood. It looks way better than varnish.

 

how does your arm feel now? haha I've used liquid glass epoxy a few times now and mixing for 5 minutes straight is tough just doing it with a small kit. Let alone 3 1/2 gallons worth. Did you let it cure between each application, or did you pour, pop the air pockets, then do the second pour immediately? I messed up my first time and used a drill to mix...talk about air bubbles. let alone that it hardened with my mixer in the container due to activating the hardener faster.

 

Haha 24 hours to cure between layers so my arms had time to rest. I got big stir sticks so it wasn't too bad. Luckily I knew ahead of time to do it manually. Picturing the drill and mixer stuck in the container made me chuckle.

 

yea...I thought my battery was dying so I went to the garage quickly to get a second battery. popped it in, and started to mix and the bucket started moving in circles instead of the epoxy haha. After that I decided reading the directions more closely was probably a good idea. quick way to burn through $20
