scan guage

I have been reading on scan guage. What is the opinion on them? Worth the money? Useful etc..I'm a dummy...where does it get plugged into? Thanks

 

very useful...definitely worth the money...I love mines...helps me monitor A/F Ratio, Voltage, AIT (air intake temps), MPG...at least that's what I have it set for...

plugs directly into your OBD2 under the driver side dash...near left leg...

 

Mine helped me improve my mileage by teaching me where my truck does best in various situations. I view my Speed, Rpms, Hp, and Mpgs.

so its just a wire with a female plug attached to the end of and the scan guage has a male end that just plugs in and its ready to work correct? it doesn't requiire a chip or anything?

 

The Scangauge chord/wire has the OBD plug on one end (plugs into the OBD port) and has a telephone looking connetion on the other (plugs into the scangauge).

No chips required, nothing. All you need to do is plug it in, read the owners manual, set it up according to the owners manual and that's it. It might take a few tanks for it to be more accurate. I really like mine.

It's a code reader also. YOu can plug it into any vehicle with an OBD port and read trouble codes.

Will it clear codes on the dash? I'm guessing not but wanted to ask. I pulled my seats and the air bag light has been on since.

Love it - just installed one over my rear-view mirror. Still learning the operation but it is really cool!

Worth it, It's helped me ease back on the throttle and improve my gas milage on my Tacoma. I've used it to read the ODBII codes too to troubleshoot a DYI issue saving $400 on my BMW. So I got my money's worth.

(Some wild Scangauge stories/benefits ... I've read someone got himself out of speeding ticket by showing the max speed on the Scangauge to challenge what a Trooper pulled him over. Someone brought a car in for service and the shop reved the heck out of the engine, referencing the max RPM on the Scangauge.)

The TacomaWorld group buy was $149 w/ next day shipping. For the price difference I would have waited an extra 2 days or so. Not such a great buy.

 

I've never used it as such yet...but I'm pretty sure you can clear the codes. Find out what the codes are and get the problem fixed or else the same codes will continually pop up.

That's great! I bought one from another member here and Im just waiting for it to arrive. Toyota said it was going to be $80 just to clear it so this is going to work out perfect.

thanks for the pic...i have read a few reviews on Amazon where reviewers say they aren't accurate and calibration is hard etc.. Hopefully if I get one I won't have those issues..

Mine wasn't accurate (gas mileage) for the first few tanks. Like the manual says - I actually take my truck to the same gas station every time and use the exact same pump everytime. When the pump stops automatically, don't put more in. I check the gallons used with the pump and I adjust each tank.
You have to fillup everytime. You can't just put a few dollars of gas in - because that'll screw up the calculations of certain data in the scangauge.
I mostly use DTE (distance to empty) and APT (Average MPG per tank).

Those are just some things I've noticed (and things I do) to keep it pretty accurate for me.

 

You know if they have got the transtemp codes now in the Scan Gauge

It's been several years since I called them. At that time, there was no way in hell they were getting the trans temp information from toyota. But - that was years ago. Go ahead and give them a phone call and let us know what you find out.
