That’s cool, but they could attach tent canvas all around the bottom of the cap and top of the bed and make it an easy-up expanding camper. When not in use, simply lower the cap and the canvas stays inside under the cap. The cap lift is strong- rated to 900 lbs

It’s designed to give you more height for tall cargo- putting a tent in there to turn it into a camper with headroom is a good idea too.

I really like my cap- its the A.R.E. MX, I used to have a flat Vista in my Gen1 that I really liked (see my Avatar), but now I want more space!

A rep at Snugtop quoted me $3,200 so I held off for now, I got my last shell used in perfect condition of craigslist for $800 so I was a little turned off at paying $3k lol

That's what this does. The expansion off the back/tailgate is an extra piece, but the side pieces do exactly what you're saying.

Edit: found this. Looks like there's a couple different options for tent fabric:

The things on the front rail are RockyMounts Clutch SD bike fork mounts, they're removed now I used them for locking my bike up in the bed.

As for the height issue, I dunno, tons of room for them on mine???

ARE V Series owner. It's been fine.
I wouldn't hesitate to get an ARE or Leer, I don't think there is a huge difference between them IMO.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I bought a 180 (basic) Leer about a year ago. Absolutely no problems with it. My dealer who had been in business for about 30-40 years (he retired and sold business) sold both Leer and ARE. I asked before I ordered and he said he liked the Leers. Got it and the part that impresses me the most is the quality of the finish and the amazing color match with my BBP paint (blue). That's my 2cents worth of advice -- good luck!

this is exactly what the ARE dealer said to me. said he could not guarantee keeping water out of it. I live in the PNW so I ended up never getting one. anyone have problems in high rain areas?

Was around $2300 with the added options. Basic shell is less than $2000 best I can remember
