If you want more speed, add a Type-R badge. 50 hp right out of the box.

If you want to get REALLY crazy, add a GTR badge.

It’s not new. They have been building Tacomas with it for 3 years now. The same motor has been in Toyota vehicles since at least the 2015 model year. The base engine has been around since 2002 and the Atkinson cycle has been in use on Toyota engines since 2007.

The engine in this truck, a 2GR-FKS, is a relatively new engine with it first being used in 2015, the engine is only 3 years old meanwhile the previous engine, the 1GR-FE, was first used in 2002 which makes it 16 years old

Yea. That’s basically what I said. This engine is just a 2GR-FSE motor with the addition of the Atkinson cycle. The 2GR-FSE has been in use since 2005 and the Atkinson cycle has been used by Toyota since 2007. They are both well understand systems in an engine that is now going into its 5th model year. I wouldn’t expect any new Tacomas to be having issues at this point unless it was intended to operate that way.
