Yea. We had one at the shop for about a year. I would drive frequently. I never really had an issue with the transmission. It felt the same as all Toyota’s transmissions to me. But I did experience the hesitation when trying to accelerate. I nearly got run into a few times because of it. I eventually just stop driving it. It was a nice truck, but there are a few weird things about it. I went back to my shit box Frankenstein 4 banger.

That’s still not “new” pretty sure they were released in late 2014, for new 2015 models. Toyota probably did testing on them for a couple of years prior. So figure around 2011-2012 for development and testing.

In fact mike sweers says the engine is “actually” a 7GR But then saying that’s a stretch. Not sure the difference is between the two or why he made that statement

Easy guys. According to some of the owners here these trucks have no problems and operate as intended. Even though Toyota has released multiple ECU reflashes for issues and also sending out surveys to customers inquiring about feedback on the issues. Apparently being enthusiasts here, your expected to be a total fanboy or I guess enthused about the issues that are “normal” or don’t really exist. :violent:

Off the line 2nd Gen will get a couple of car lengths but never try to pass a 3rd once rolling, will never happen.

Once you are in the rpm range it's 18% more hp and bye bye.

That's why 0-60 times are equal if not slightly better than 2nds.

Ok so I have a 2018 sr 2.7 . So when I feel the truck falls flat on its face is when I am trying merge on the highway or pass some one . I have a 98 gmc 4 cly 5 spd and it’s not fast by any means lol . But it still gets 27 28 miles to the gallon. Yesterday I was getting 26.7 miles to the gallon which is my best Mileage by far. I will to me maybe wrong but this transmission does shift a lot and sometimes hard up shift and down shift . So is this normal for the third generation Tacoma’s ? This is my first Toyota ever so I don’t know what to expect. But I love this truck and I am still glad I got the 2.7 over the v6.

If you had v6 it would put you back in the seat when getting on the highway or pass if you hit it. Mine does.

    That doesn’t prove anything.

They “fixed” the unintended acceleration even though freaking NASA itself proved there was nothing wrong.... a bunch of stupid old people confused pedals and wanted something to blame.

What’s funny is “unintended acceslaration” in all brands skyrocketed for a few years while it was trending in the media, coincidence?? Toyota bore the brunt of it because it sold the most cars and the demographics of Camry buyers leaned old.

People love playing victim, just like on here with the third gen, so many neurotic “men” like “OMG it made a noise! A NOISE! I heard it! Better lemon law”

The shifting is tuned for more economy, so it can seem a little sluggish if you don't press the throttle enough. I added a ShiftSense module, and it shifts like I want it to. The power is there and it accelerates well, you just need to know how to tap into it.

I remember when all that runaway car stuff was going on a magazine can't remember which did a test.

They took all kinds of different cars and trucks, and at highway speed put the accelerator to the floor and then tried to stop with the service brakes.

EVERY SINGLE CAR stopped. Even a Shelby mustang GT500 can't overrun it's brakes.

I have a Manual 2017 V6, and even that felt weird. It had a strange delay. It could not hold speed on inclines while in 6th or 5th gear. It had a weird torque curve that made it basically a pain to drive in nearly every situation. Notice the past tense.

After the new OEM ECU tune update, all of that has basically either been significantly reduced to completely fixed. This is a new tune from the factory.

If this is what a new factory tune can do, then I can only image the difference a 91 octane tune could do.

Lol, no Toyota dropped the ball on programming. When I first got my truck, I only drove it for like a week. Ended up getting surgery to remove my gall bladder and didn’t drive much for 2 weeks. Then went out of town and took a road trip 9 hours to my buddy’s house in Indiana for his wedding. First time using the cruise control on the way. It was the absolute worst driving expierence of my life. On a flat road the truck was shifting gears every 30 seconds. Reving like crazy to maintain speed. I’ve never expierenced anything like it. I’ve worked on thousands of vehicles, driven thousands and even installed aftermarket universal chain link cruise controls that worked better than this. I’ve added cruise controls on lots of different model Toyota and scion vehicles over the years and test driven them and never had any bad experiences. Even owned a couple of Toyota’s (one being a Tacoma) myself in the past and again never any problems. They had a TSB for it on the 16’s. Mine truck was one of the first 17’s that came into the dealer I worked for and I assumed they weren’t going to have the issue. But you’re right I’m playing victim, and Toyota just released an update as some type of placebo. Also there is no shifting or hesitation issues. A lot of us are just making this up. And Toyota of course plays along with our drivability concerns because they don’t want us to think that the problem is really ourselves.

As for the unintended acceleration issue, I can say in my Celica I had a floor mat get caught under the pedal. Car took off and scared the shit out of me. After a second I knew what happened and reached down and it took a few seconds but I got it out. I could see how an old person would easy panic. I don’t think it was anything with the ECU’s like what people were claiming. However Toyota did cut the accelerator pedals so they obviously knew that was an issue. Then they started locking the floor mats down and removing any aftermarket ones or towels and other crap people lay down. Then they did the engineering with the pedal depresses. Obviously a lot of that was just to protect their ass from any liability. But there still was an issue with a design flaw causing interference and sticky pedals. But maybe that’s all in our heads too?

Yeah it's definitely not a just off the line thing, going up inclines or loss of momentum is a killer. My previous Gen Tacoma's would scoot right up hills in 6th gear, this one requires speeding up to about 75 and hope there is enough to make it or down shift to 5th which also may not work so then 4th is required. I need to get the Factory TSB done as it sounds like it really improves driveability or there is also OV.

According to some in this thread, since there are no problems with programming, Matt must just designed some bogus tune to make money, while really changing nothing in the truck. Because it’s perfect from the factory lol

3rd gen owners get butt hurt immediately The amount of people getting offended on here tells me they are probably just mad they spent 40,000 on a truck for a new interior and annoying transmission.

Ps whats the point of off roading and camping if you just press a button and it does the work (poorly) for you. Crawl control: that looks like a babies toy!

There is a transmission flash that can be performed at the dealer. Changes shift points. Mine drives better since
