I think maybe (not to pick at anyone) there are a lot of people on here that haven’t owned a lot of different brands and aren’t aware that there are things outside what Toyota, or maybe the other big brands, offer. There are over a dozen turbo cars offered in the US as we speak. I’ve always been a fan of turbos. My last Audi A4 had plenty of power (low 5 second 0-60) yet would return 40mpg on the highway. I plan on driving my Taco as long as possible but would trade it in a heartbeat to get a turbo 4 Taco.

Turbo issues or turbos failing? I’ve never had either but VW, as much as I like them, is a very hit or miss endeavor.

Edit: For the money I’m not sure there is a better deal in the world than a VW GTI. That’s a lot of car for the money.

Turbo failures. But the good ones are excellent. Amazing little engine.

I may make my way over to see what’s going on because I’ve yet to have a single issue and my foot is generally planted firmly in the floor of my current GTI, and this is not my first rodeo with a GTI. Mine is a MK 6. Maybe the new MK 7 turbos are made in the USA where they are not used to making turbos? Just kidding....

Indeed, an NA engine can leave you stranded with a contaminated CKP sensor, clogged air injection pump, or cracked coolant pipe, but you can sleep easy knowing there's no turbocharger to fail. I'd still trust Toyota to do a turbocharged engine, because Toyota doesn't do inherently unreliable designs like Ford does, things like timing chain-driven water pump, plastic oil pan, or cap-less fuel filler (which relies on a gasket on the fuel door to maintain vacuum).

Really? You were ready to jump ship to a Ford? Bet you can't wait for FIAT to come out with a truck, so that you can jump ship again....

There's a lot of people who flash their ECU to get golf R performance for $1000.

A stock car is more likely to be reliable than one that has a 3rd party tune on it.

My current car is a VW and so will my next one.

Toyota seems to think turbos are fine in a Lexus

Turbos are a mixed bag in my opinion. I work at a GM dealer and can tell you that some of our turbos are quite reliable. The Duramax 6.6 will fail on occasion, but considering how many are on the road, it's a very small failure rate. The 2.0 I4 turbo is very reliable, but the 2011 - 2015 1.4 turbo used in the Cruze for example is crap. I sold 5 in one week earlier this year. Fortunately for the customers, 4 were covered under warranty. I'm not familiar with Ford's reliability rate on turbos, but they sure sell a lot of them.

And perhaps we will see a bunch of 300,000mile+ Lexus turbos in the future. Then maybe the Tacoma will get one.

Done right a turbo will last. The Ford turbos are holding up well. I did read on that GTI MK 7 forum that early 15 models were having turbo issues but it seems to ave gotten resolved. That’s a bummer because when the turbo goes so goes the power, or much of it.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
More than likely Ford is going to give it a few years to see how the sales of the Ranger do. If they well then there will be a Ranger Raptor in the US in three to five years. Keep in mind, less than five years ago they said they had no plans of ever putting a diesel in the F150. Ford put a diesel in the F150 this year.

Yeah why not? It's not like the Tacoma is the most reliable vehicle on the planet lol. Some members on here act as if the Tacoma is the holy grail of reliability. My experience has been the exact opposite so I have nothing to lose. Would not buy a Fiat FYI.

I plan to lurk on the Ranger Forums just to see how they do with the new platform. It's good to keep your options open. I'd need to become pretty disappointed with the Taco to switch, especially with Ranger not offering a MT but the 2.3EB and 10AT are certainly interesting.

It’s basically a retuned version of the 2.3EB from the Mustang so this engine is nothing totally new. My bet is that the drivetrain is butter smooth. But, that truck looks like a big bowl of vanilla ice cream to me. It looks boring. Ford could have done so much more with it but they are terrified of taking away sales from the mighty F-150, since that truck is basically all the profits for Ford. I think Ford execs would all kill over dead simultaneously if he F-150 ever lost its sales crown.

As I’ve said on here many times, I’ve owned a ton of new vehicles for my age range. My Ford trucks were better than my Toyota trucks from a reliability standpoint but I prefer the look, feel, and off road abilities of the Taco. I also like the aftermarket support. And, shallowly, I think they look cool. Consumer Reports just rated Toyota as the second most reliable brand. I’m not a huge fan of their publication but they also rated the Taco as Toyota’s least reliable vehicle. I’ve had some minor issues with mine but nothing that is a deal breaker. The howling/resonance from the rear diff drives me crazy but not crazy enough to unload it. I’m staying put. Peace.

traveling in Hong Kong and spotted this ford ranger that looked tougher than shoe leather. I’ve been not a fan of ford for a long time, but this is a good looking truck, even though it pains me to admit.

Two scoops better than my Taco. Kept the side mirrors from the F150 when down scaling. They take up two parking space by themselves in Hong Kong.

Edit: Looks like it has even more mini-scoops. One for each CAI? So much mo.

Yeah, that does seem like a very practical vehicle for Hong Kong.
