Yea, we bought a lot of vehicles since our first new one in '93 so we've seen all the tactics. What works the best is to be honest with them. Tell them you are definitely willing to buy on the spot. That hooks them. But then also let them know you're willing to go as far away as it takes to make the deal happen. Finally, my rule of thumb, never offer an amount you're willing to pay until they tell you that is their final offer. If it's not at least 15% less than the msrp, simply thank them and walk out. 9 times outta 10 they will stop you to say they can maybe do better. If not, don't waste your time, move on. Be prepared to tell them you want the 15%. That is generally their limit.

I've even gone as far as photoshopping my own created offers. I'll hide the name of the dealer "out of professional courtesy" and will add some BS like "but since I'm already here and you are so close to the price bla bla bla.

This has worked three times for me.
