I am looking to find a black paint pen to do some touch up and some knicks. I know majority of these won't be perfect but I am looking to just get relatively close. Does anyone have any experience with certain manufactures of this particular issue? Thanks

Don’t they have OEM touch up paint pens for your color? I have a silver rig and Toyota made a silver touch up paint for mine. They also have OEM clear coat pen as well.

If your filling small rock chips I suggest cleaning the chip with rubbing alcohol and then applying a 50/50 paint and clear coat into the chip with a tooth pick. It’ll save you time on wet sanding/polishing the paint flush.

Dealer paint pen match was best for me, silver. The dup-color crap was darker or maybe a hint yellower on mine.

Any reason you use rubbing alcohol rather than isopropyl?

I just went to the dealer and asked for a touch up pen for my color of truck. $10. They had to order but it was here in 3 days.

Its not. Rubbing alcohol is ethanol. Its more volitile and honestly should not be used on your paint.

Use isopropyl alcohol diluted 1:2 with water on your paint.

So why does it come up as isopropyl alcohol when I google rubbing alcohol?

When you touch up the chip, use a cardboard matchstick cut at an angle and use the least amount to provide color match. Then fill the depression with clear. If you don't have a separate clear, the fill the entire chip with color. Then (after fully dry) level with a razor, sandpaper and compound. Google Kevin Tetz chip repair for a video. An old timer painter taught me the matchstick trick and the method Kevin shows. The chip will pretty much disappear.

I've used Dr. Color Chip products for years on my '96 BMW Z3 and bought a kit for my new 2020 AG Tacoma, too.

Just ordered some. Never tried Dr. Color Chip. Heard about it for years. Seemed a little gimmicky. Will find out.

I've used it for many years on my '96 Z3 and also now on the Tacoma. I've had great results.
