So where does the relay pull power from? The radio somewhere? I assume I have to run a power wire from the camera back to the relay, so its not pulling power 100% of the time.

I connected the red power wire for the relay to the red wire coming off the over ride harness. I did not want my front camera on unless I was watching it.

All the info is in this threads previous posts. Wiring diagrams, pictures and explanations....

I've been pouring over all the diagrams. Got em on my phone too. Does it pull power from the radio or do I need to run something like a remote for an amp? I'll keep looking regardless...

edit- holy sh*t the power thing is on the first page. my searcher is busted...derp. Thanks @payrow

Were you perfectly centered? I did that and didn’t check my pilot hole. Too close to some mounting hardware for the TSS and I couldn’t get the retaining nut on. Had to move over.... now I need a plug. :)

Also, how did everyone get through the firewall? Push through the engine bay to cab, or vice versa? And did you use part of the existing hole or did you have to puncture the boot?

I had to puncture the boot. I was afraid of poking a hole in an existing wire as they are pretty tight together. I went from cab to engine with coat hanger. Then i cut the boot next to the hanger maybe 1/8th inch with razor. Then i pulled the wire from engine to cab.

I got that all done.... pretty happy with the final product. I ended up doing something like you. Need to figure out what’s up with my hood though. Somehow I have my release cable jacked and the clasp won’t fully engage.

Sushi time though. Been working on yard and garage all day.

Finished my install this weekend, and am pretty happy with the final result (had to move the camera once). I have two questions:

    1) what fuse are you guys using for power? Probably one I’m already using for something else. Lol.
    2) coincidentally, I seem to have lost the Bluetooth mic, or at least nobody on the other end can hear me when I call them via the Bluetooth connection.

There are coincidences of course..., but odds are I hosed something. Any suggestions on the latter?

This has been the project that keeps on giving. :)

Someone else had an issue like this, I think the harness wasn’t plugged all the way in

Oh, and as for fuse...none. IT ends up tapping the hot within the harness to power the relay and camera. I posted a diagram a few pages back:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...and-rear-cameras.567192/page-10#post-18893676

Note the black wire at the bottom left of the diagram is from the harness and when switched, will send power to the camera and relay as needed.

Not that.... at least from a cursory unplug/plug cycle.

Hmmmm, what the hell did I connect to the fuse box then? Ah, camera directly too a switched source. But I can swap over so it’s only on when needed vs when driving.

I have a question: did you plugged the front camera rca to the female rca marked with black stripe?

Took me like an hour all together. Now that I’ve done it once, 15 minutes. Always an expert too late!

It took me a bit of time. I’d say start to end maybe 3 hours? If you get all your stuff ready, rather than figure it out on the fly, it’ll go much faster than me. I got halfway first weekend in about 2 hours. Then another 2-3 the next weekend. It should go in 3 or less if you’re more prepared than I.

    • Make pigtails
    • Know your wiring pattern
    • Know where you’re putting your camera
    • Know wire loop cuts to get video orientation correct
    • Know how you’re getting through firewall
    • Have all your connectors/tools etc
    • If you’re putting in a rocker switch, don’t let your wife take the Dremel to a dog show
    • Just go ahead and take off the kick panel and lower dash
    • Other stuff I can’t think of right now

Clearly I wasn’t prepared well, or my ocd is off the chart. I was also trying out two different cameras. And of course had to lay out markers up front to map divergence of fov so I could compare cameras. That’s a whole lot of in/out of the truck. Then of course I had to run to Lowe’s to see if I could salvage the first hole I drilled; too close to the TSS box and couldn’t get the retaining nut on.

I’d give myself 2 hours if I was doing a buddy’s solo. 1 hour if working together.
