This has turned into a very interesting/informative thread. Doing a few hour test drive today by myself so I can get a better idea.

Same here, can’t get over low 18s for tank average no matter how I drive. My work commute is only 15 miles but all rolling hills and windy. Really kills my MPGs. Of course a couple trips on flat highways I was able to get 21mpgs but that was all highway.

I also did that same commute for over a year in my previous Tacoma. It was an 09 Prerunner and I never got over 16-17mpgs with it. I would have to fill at about 300 miles each tank of gas, with my new 18 4WD I get about 340 miles before I have to fill up. Supposedly the gas mileage gets better after about 10k miles on these trucks. I’m still happy with the truck and don’t miss my outdated 09.

Strange. MPG should be much better for all highway driving. My auto got better than manual. Bone stock, I got 23mpg on the freeway going 70-75mph fairly consistently. No way you should only be getting 16-17. That tells me something is off. Brakes dragging? O2 sensor bad? Maybe time to take it into the dealer.

Maybe try a MT just to take the AT out of the equation for one drive?

Does the Rear diff have a removable cover or is it welded on? I just watched a video and it looked like it was welded on permanently like my 98 4 Runner...

Is the composite bed removable and therefore I could access the frame from the top?

    Thanks!

You may have seen my inferno Tacoma parked out there, but I left about a year and half ago. My friend said someone else bought an inferno Tacoma and started parking in the same area I used to lol.

Yeah I need to take it in. I might see 23 at 55mph on the flats. But not even close to 23 at 70-75mph. I'm either in stop and go traffic or interstate at 75mph.

I've wondered if with hills and wind, I just drive a combination of roads and speeds that just aren't conducive to good mpg with this 3.5. Probably the case, as like I said I read on here about all the great gas mileage and I just don't ever see it.

I average 20ish but live in a small town and drive 30-40 miles on the interstate a couple of times a week. But the interstate here has little traffic and you can run 65-70 without getting ran over. I can see how driving these trucks in traffic may not be favorable to mpg or your sanity. I do hope you get your issues resolved.

on The Raptor and other F-150s it’s easy to disable by just unplugging a connector under the dash.

Amending my post so it does not seem like I am critical of your opinion.

I can't tell if this is sarcastic, or maybe it's me that has my wires crossed.

    Here is what I heard.

1.Ford Ranger is coming to US market, not Ranger Raptor.
    2. Not even Ford knows what a ranger Raptor for the US market would look like since it would require massively expensive modifications to bring it to market.
    3. If it does make it to the market in the US it's only projected to be mildly less expensive then the F-150 Raptor which is very scary for Ford.
    4. The exclusivity of the Raptor series means it's not really a contender for the midsize Market compared to the Tacoma or the regular Ranger.

So I would sum it up by saying a theoretical not priced, not available low production number vehicle that no one has ever driven is probably not really going to change the overall midsize market, but hopefully gets Toyota to innovate.

It may make Toyota make some changes to the Pro, but wont affect how they go to narket with regular Tacomas.

I don’t know why the Pro is still sold. There is very little differentiation from it and a fully loaded OR now.

Well, other than greedy dealers and consumers that like to flush money.

Seems like a small thing, but that 1" height difference is huge when eyeing new tacomas on the lot and deciding which is more attractive. And just like that, Toyota pockets an additional $8k.

I'm sure they have it figured out to a % how many people will part with that extra cash for a 1" taller truck. And then they make that number of pros.

Welded on ,and the bed can be unbolted so you can get to the frame. You really are starting to sound like a Troll when you ask a question knowing the answer already by watching a video, that's what Trolls do..
