I have really been looking into this kit; I think it may be a better choice than a 6" lift. If I got the RCD kit, I will run 33's as opposed to 35's; that may have other advantages too I suppose. Has anyone on here run BOTH the RCD kit and another 6" lift kit? It would be great to hear an opinion from someone who has driven both on his/her truck for a while (preferably on and off road). Thanks!

I don't know... but I'm pretty sure the ride quality would be about the same... for the most part all drop bracket lifts are the same. As for 35's.... you can't fit 35's without cutting the cab mounts with the rcd kit. I'm running 305/65/17s which are a 32.6" tire, but my tires are 12" wide. I think you could get away with a 295/70/17 which is a 33.6 tire.

Yea, I assume the ride quality would be about the same in terms of the drop bracket; I'm thinking though that the RCD kit may be of higher quality than a Pro Comp or Fabtech 6" drop bracket kit (from what I've heard on here). Also, a 4.5" lift should be just fine to let me do the driving that I want to do. I wouldn't put 35's on a 4.5" lift because I don't think it would as good. Likewise, 33's on a 6" lift might also look inferior to 35's - thus I'll either do 33's on a 4.5" lift, or 35's with a 6" lift.

I'm not 100% if I would have to trim to get 35's on a 6" lift, but I've heard a lot of people say they had to trim (it's probably the size of the wheel well, not necessarily the lift).

I also think 33's would also be big enough for the driving that I want to do. And if it saved me from having to regear, the savings on tire cost and fuel economy, then perhaps it isn't worth the extra money for 35's.

I personally think 6" lifts are too much for the little body of the tacoma... but to each his own, the 4.5 is perfect IMHO.

I think I'm really beginning to agree with you. I've looked at hundreds of pictures and read a lot of build threads (including yours) and think that a 6" lift with 35's is just too much. It would require a lot more money to do it right - more expensive lift, coil-overs, more expensive tires, trimming, re-gearing, re-calibrating the spedo/odometer, and worse gas mileage (the continual cost!).

The RCD 4.5" kit seems to be less expensive, and [at this point] I believe 33's don't necessitate a re-gear or re-calibration of the spedo/odometer (re-calibration could be a good thing to do though). It will provide a good ride height, and allow for a good off-road tire [size].

If it means that I save $1000's, then perhaps I would be better off putting that money into other goodies for my truck :)

well it looks great however after all said an done... probably not, but once I started on it there was no backing down.

Painting is the killer... I don't recommend this to anyone unless they have a hook up at the paint shop because that shit is expensive!
