Well she or it’s(hehe)ready for the final process(plywood, masonite, coping)install!

If anyone is available, willing, interested let me know as i’d sincerely appreciate it and will composite those who are down to help.Could use the additional body weight and feet for proper install, positioning and seeting of plywood layers etc.

This upcoming weekend(Sat/Sun November 3/4)i have three weddings to attend so it’s a no go.

The following weekend(Sat/Sun November 10/11)i’ll be in Georgia for a military Veterans Day Memorial so it’s also a no go.7C920DA5-2731-44D3-824C-84173FC7BC32.jpg 62365ED8-0A69-49E4-B685-C1A3BEFB2C1F.jpg

Ron... give me a heads up a few days before you plan to lay the plywood (preferably a weekend) and I’ll do my best to show up and help. Figure it’s the least I can do since I plan to come up for a shred session when it’s done.

*Noise cured for anyone that gets similar symptoms:

So here's the breakdown: I did a complete rebuild on my suspension (noted above). After getting everything buttoned up and getting my alignment (which left the steering wheel clocked to the right ever so slightly- more on that later), I had a slight grinding noise and a clunk in my steering when turning the wheel back and forth in small increments. Ruling out the usual suspect (shit not torqued right), I was at a loss. Everything is new and the truck only has 57k on it so wear and tear shouldn't be the issue. I had no problems prior to the refresh so maybe I messed something up? Enter the hacks at Pep Boys (where I get my alignment). Before anyone says "Go to a real off road shop to get your alignments…", these guys have been good to me and have always aligned the truck without a problem since I've owned it. Granted they don't know shit about aftermarket suspension and look at my truck the way Cro-Magnon man looks at an iPhone, but they always get me in spec and there's never been an issue 'til now. The even let me use their spring compressor to install my coils myself because they don't know how to do it on aftermarket shocks. Ultimately the problem was the new uniballs. Not the balls themselves, but the issues that arise from "racecar parts". The new FK uniballs in my Icon UCAs are tight as hell where my worn out unis were more like a fidget spinner. This made the steering feel super tight, which confused the tech that does the alignments. Said there was a problem with my steering rack even after I assured him it's "normal". After the initial alignment and the truck was in spec (about 3*camber and 0/0 on caster/toe), dude mentions to me that the steering wheel might be off 12 o'clock because he was having a hard time centering it. He said to come back after a few days if it is and he can straighten it (it was close to closing time and I think he just wanted to go home). I drove away a happy camper. A few days later I started hearing the noise. Only at slow speed while turning. Never in a straight line or anything over 15 MPH. Start looking at everything, checking torque values, basically going over every single thing I touched during the refresh. Everything checks out. So I start thinking steering rack or CV since it is clearly directly connected to when I "steer". The crooked wheel was bothering me so I waited a week to get that corrected and mention to the guy the noise. He says "I don't know. Maybe the steering rack." (again) (Fucker planted a seed which when I asked here.) By this time the uniballs have somewhat broken in and it feels like I have power steering again. I watched the dude grudgingly go back and forth trying to center the wheel and triple check my alignment numbers while making really small changes. By now I'm the "difficult customer" who is never satisfied. Fuck 'em- I got lifetime alignment so you're going to wrench on my shit as many times as I want. Drove away, the noise is gone. Go home and start pulling shit apart (without touching the LCA, alignment cams or tie rods). In the tech's effort to fight the tight steering caused by the new uniballs, the adjusted the tie rods to the point where they were pulling themselves out of the steering rack everytime I turned at slow speeds. (It obviously takes less input/effort to change lanes on the freeway that it does to make a 3 point turn in a narrow street). Basically everything was so tight, it was all fighting against each other (heavy, grippy tires on pavement, new uniballs, stock steering rack) and the tech having no idea what uniballs are, fought against it also to get the truck in spec.
Close inspection shows that I resolved this before any damage was done.

    Word to the wise:
When doing your rebuild, get your alignment prior to installing you new uniballs or at least try to explain to the ape with a wrench what he's looking at and that it'll feel tight and that's "normal".

    Good luck!
