I have seen it before, just not sure if or what they needed to do to make it fit. It doesn't look bad, just confused most people that look at it.

Now that you mentioned it again. I think it is from a 89 4Runner. Now I’m having second thoughts. Lol. It might just look a bit too weird I might say. Ugh. Maybe I’ll continue my search for the “right” camper. Lol

No worries. I'll still go look at it and see if the condition of it. I might get it and see how I end up liking it. For only $50 bucks I could just sell it or keep it stored without a problem.

OK, Unfortunately I think you'll have better luck the more north you go. I see a few all the time around me. I've got my old one that I Need to sell but the drive would nullify it :)

Right! Guess I'll just keep searching the inner web for one I'm sure one will pop up, in the meantime I'll probably snatch this one for those 50 bucks.

I wonder if this is why you hear the phrase "double cab with a shell is basically a 4-Runner". The older models really did appear that way, minus the double cab of course

It's got the same general feel as the 4runners, but it's completely different. The 4runners didn't have rear glass (was part of the tailgate) and don't have the rubber surround that mates up with the back window of the truck.

    Definitely not from a 4Runner.

I wouldn't, but that's just me. Looks pretty old and funky - never seen that type before so can't really say anything about the quality.

If it was a 4R top it would not match the back of your cab at all.

It's only made to look like the 4runner top, definitely not a factory 4runner top. I remember seeing these back in the day advertised in petersons off-road magazine. I don't recall the company who made them and not about to go into the attic and dig through all those old magazines lol

But it's definitely older so I would just check for cracks in the fiberglass and around windows and overall condition, but I wouldn't be scared to run it. Very rare in my books

Also the 1st gen 4runners are way smaller then are tacomas and highly doubt a factory top would even come close to lining up on are beds, so that right there disproves it being an old top of a runner...

Here’s the thing. Owner says he has it currently on his 1st gen. According to him it fits. Only one way to make sure, dry fit it.

Thanks. I just curious how it’ll look. If it looks horrible I’ll just make a run for it, but without the topper.

Just get one you know fits for your truck. It'll be much easier to make water tight and you won't have issues closing the tailgate and trimming crap etc.

Also if you plan on carrying larger loads or sleeping in the back ever, I'd recommend one that's slightly higher than the standard cab height. The standard cab height is just too dang dinky I could hardly fit a small couch in it let alone sleep on a platform above wheel-wells.

I picked up this Leer 122 camper shell for $150
I like it because it's higher in the rear but tapers down to the front.
Having owned both types of camper shells the extra height is way better. Also enough height to get a dirt bike in the back.
Leer model 122 also comes with cool window options

Needs better pics. How about one pic from the side showing the whole thing on the sellers truck?
