Did my first oil change yesterday at 1500 miles. Upon adding the new oil, i was getting confused trying to read the dipstick because of residual oil in the tube. Eventually I got a clear reading, right in the center of the min and max dimples. I'm curious, does anyone know the actual range, in quarts, between the min and max dimples?

Rough up the tip of the dipstick with a bit of sand paper. It makes readings easier. Thankfully, it is not painted black like some that I have seen.

Be sure to clean the end after sanding just in case there are any particles on it.

If in between (middle) the holes, add 1/2 quart of oil.
bottom hole = low 1 qt.
    top hole = full
between holes = approximate what is needed.

This is a good idea that I have yet to do.

Why didn't Toyota put some hash marks between the holes lol??!!

He’s like some of us (including me). New engine, metal will be in the oil.

I changed mine at 3k and found a nice amount of metal shavings.
