It is awesome. The power is very linear. I can chug along and get great MPG's; or, I get put my foot into it and make her fly !

What's wrong with left of 1st? Same place it was on my GTI and I don't even have to press down to get there.

Gave the MT Tacoma a good run today. From New England to Washington DC through a Northeaster wind and rain storm. The truck performed magnificently. It handled the Interstate more like an old fashioned “land yacht” sedan only with a better stance and seating position.
This vehicle is much more than a pickup. It is amazing.
And, I got over 26 mpg on the trip.

Took in an easy hike yesterday. Mount Sugarloaf, Maryland. The drive on the park access road was fun. It’s a paved one-way loop, with lots of curves and switchbacks though the forest. Any passenger car can easily navigate this road. In a MT Tacoma it is fun ! Going up, the gearing pulled the vehicle smoothly and powerfully through the turns. Going down, the gearing held the truck at the perfect speed while providing a satisfying sense of perfectly controlled driving.
Man, I love this truck !

I love my 16 TRD Sport DC 4x4 WITH MANUAL 6 SPEED. Just about anyone can OPERATE an automatic, but a manual is DRIVEN. It’s fun to drive and handles great. By the way, I know I’m a lot older than most, if not all, of you guys out there. MANUAL ALL THE WAY!

SilverBulletII How did you manage 26 mpg? I’ve gotten 22-22.5 mpg driving pretty much the speed limit, which I don’t do most of the time. I have a TRD CatBack & CAI. My only complaint though is a wind noise I believe from the right front door, usually around 85 or so. Just cN’t imagine 26 mpg with 430 gears.

I get that kind of mpg on the highway consistently. Sometimes I get 27 mpg. I avg 23 to 24 for mixed highway/local.
My truck is stock. No cruise control. Street tires. And, a badass little 2.7 l, 4 banger with a 5 speed MT.

You guys must be going 20 mph below the limit to get that kind of mpg, I barely get 16 going 75 mpg, around 20 going 60. I've only had the truck for 10 days but it is pretty consistent.

I might be wrong or it might just be because of the engine curve, but it seems the truck is holding the throttle until 3800-4000 rpm while on WOT, then it opens up, is anyone else experiencing this?

I get 16mpg on the highway doing 60. The 33" MTs are probably the most responsible for that.

Nope. Drive the speed limit or slightly above; but, not 75 mph.

You do realize that your V6 engine runs on Atkinson cycle at lower RPM's for efficiency, and switches to Otto cycle at higher RPM's?

Here's a good explanation on Otto vs. Atkinson cycle:

Yes but I didn't expect it to be that much noticeable on WOT or close to, there is a clear cut around the 4000 rpm where the truck suddenly gets more throttle response. Anyway I got my answer, thank you good sir.

Is that where the "surge" comes from that everyone talks about when it converts over from one to the other? I notice a difference in power that seems to happen just before or around 3000 RPM. It goes from a bit of a dog to suddenly taking off! It's like the turbo (or VTEC yo) kicks in and shoves you back into your seat!
