Is there some place I can read about pros and cons of handhelds vs dongles, regarding the tuning process?

    Doesn’t seem safe to google...

I don’t know much about this stuff, but I *do* wanna make my truck faster.

it's more about driveability than hp. there are some gains in power, but just driving is a much better experience.

Well I took my truck in to have the TSB done and they performed TSB 0125-18. I finally found out what it was and it doesn’t seem like the one I was hoping for. I have a 2016 and this is the only TSB I’ve ever done since purchasing it in December of 2016.

From what I’ve seen from the OP we have to have the new TSB to run 1.05 (please correct me if I’m wrong). I don’t know what the specific reason for that is considering 1.05 comes with the TSB in it. So my question is, will 1.05 work on my truck with this particular TSB? Is the prerequisite of needing the other TSB satisfied by this one?

Even though the TSB talks more about the engine surge at idle speeds, it does say on my paperwork that it was an engine and transmission update with an ECU flash.

Looking forward to getting this tune. Just hope I don’t have to go back to the dealer again to try and get them to do another TSB.

Just a gen2 TRD shift knob so far. Anxiously awaiting ovTune 1.05 with handheld tuner!
Been watching... and watching... and watching for weeks now.

Matt (if you've got time to chime in), whats the eta on the handhelds? I havent pre-ordered, but am waiting for the release of the handhelds to order 1.05. New customer here and am really looking forward to ridding the dead lag to surge to grumpy gear changes. Cheers to your work, sir!

I decided to just swap my handheld for the flash kit. I figured that I will save money going this direction. if I decided to custom tune later I dont need to buy the data logger add on which is another $200.

T-SB-0062-18 “Stumble at Wide Open Throttle Takeoff” will update your ECU to 0B404. It states “at high-altitude.” I live at sea level and told Toyota that it happened on my weekend trip to the mountains. They couldn’t try to replicate it. If I told them it surged between 40-60mph, they’d drive it trying to replicate it before installing T-SB-0058 (same file).

This is exactly the type of benefit I was asking about. Also, it seems like a Windows based computer is required either way.

As a grown ass man and having owned my own business for 18 years my personal preference is for bacon and midgets but seeing as shipping a midg....ummm "little person" seems to be a federal crime not to mention expensive I went with plan C.

I too have 'pre-ordered' a handheld. I have not however received an email stating that there will be a delay in shipping it or an option to receive the Flash file in the interim. Can someone share the email contents with me?

    Thanks :)

I think the dongles are not being sold anymore, correct? I didn't get one with my tune, anyways. From what I understand, really the biggest difference is that the handhelds will be a streamlined, compact, portable unit, but you don't have the ability to log and custom tune unless you get the logger add-on. The "Custom Tuning Package" like I got needs a windows computer (or a Mac with the ability to run windows via bootcamp or VM), so it's 'less' compact and portable depending on what computer you have/get, but you can log data and custom tune right off the bat. Others here are more knowledgeable than me though.
