I really think it’s sometbing I’d want to try. I’m over this working with my back life and getting burned and dirty everyday. I’d love to be able to build stuff from concepts to drawings to real life.
I’ve been thinking about going back to school for like 6 months now and just trying to see what my options are. Something I could do night classes or at home classes too.

I’d love to be able to design and build stuff like @SMKYTXN does

I’ve been looking into weld inspecting and other stuff. Trying to get a future plan together once my life gets a little more consistent. It’s almost time tho

I am a mech eng and enjoy it mostly. The job market is good now here with oil doing well. I would say that it has its frustrations too and that corporate world can be a challenge but I it overall a good move. I studied with a guy that went back to school after about 10 years of modifying jeeps for a living. It was a real challenge for him to balance family life, school, and continued work to pay for it - but, it can be done. I would caution you to not underestimate the workload of an engineer curriculum- expect 5 years of long hours. I spent about 2 hrs studying at home for every hour in class- give or take. If you plan for this and expect it, go for it.

That’s a pretty solid answer. I appreciate that man. Is most of the work in oil/gas or is there other outlets?

My degree is Mechanical Engineering. I am currently working as a Control Systems/Automation Engineer.

I have always enjoyed designing and building things. After working as a designer at an engineering firm for 5 years I decided it was time to seriously get my degree to further my career and my ambitions.

I already had an A.A.S. in engineering technology so when I began my B.S. degree I started as a sophomore. I did 18-21 hours a semester with summer classes and finished in 3 years. I literally had no life outside of school. Being older I had to study a lot harder.

You are looking at $7-8k per semester full time.

Job outlook is good now. But it can me cyclical with oil and gas. When I graduate in 2016 only 10 out of 60 graduates from my class had job offers.

Definitely worth it. I am in a position to grow my career. I have the possibility of my employer paying for my future masters degree or MBA. I am making decent money and the future looks good.

Kase, a little advice. Look into other tech/trade degrees as well. 3 of my brothers have Associates degrees in corrosion engineering from Kilgore college and specialize in cathodic protection. They get the perfect balance of field work an office work. They all make a lot more money then me and enjoy what they are doing.

That is cool. Welcome to the powerhouse! That’s a good looking guy in that video lol.

I think that oil and gas is the main industry around Houston but there are other big industries here as well as you can see. The opportunities are there.

Yes sir! Freaking amazing! We were there about 1230-1. We’ve learned the hard way that burnt ends sell out, and pops didn’t wanna miss out.

I only been called up once and got on a case. But it was easy because it was a episode of cops that they where filming so the state just showed the episode and it was fast. Trial Started like at noon and was done by 4
