I had been seriously thinking about it.... But I've been told that it's likely I'll have some seam sealing to do before she's 100% water tight. Does camping in the driveway count? Lol

Is rain in the forecast? If not, it can wait. And if it is, well it'll let you know where you need to seal!

And I'll say driveway counts... They weren't mine, but my first two nights were in other peoples' driveways.

I learned a long time ago that here in CO the weather will do whatever it wants, whenever it wants, forecast be damned lol

    Pfft. Man up.

We picked our hab at AT and were camping on the north-rim Grand Canyon that night... and the next 14 nights.

First off congrats! But how is it that you have already heard from AT about potential install? I ordered back in the beginning of June and they still aren’t done building or even let me know of a install date. Sounds like I am going to have to make a call today!

I think he said the dealer he ordered through already had placed a stock order well before he put his payment down. He's getting one of those.

Don't worry, I'm road tripping down to AZ, then TX, then back to CO starting on the 8th :D

I've been going through Juniper Overland in Denver, not AT directly. I went up there to get eyes and hands on a unit before I fully committed to buying one, but while I was there I found out they had already put an order in with AT to get some units to have on hand for inventory. I jumped on a unit they'd already ordered and AT had already started to build, otherwise I have no idea when I'd actually be getting my unit. I will say that I think my biggest gripe so far has been communication, or rather the lack thereof from everyone involved... I hate feeling like I have to bug people/businesses to squeeze out info.

I don't know about Juniper, but Equipt was similar on lack of information. But I don't really blame them at all. They are a small shop. Anytime I pinged them with an email they got back to me fast with a call or email. I told them I had to have the Habitat available for install about 4 months out, on one specific date. After they confirmed with AT, Equipt told me they could make that happen and I purchased. It was a week or two before that date and I hadn't heard anything, so I gave them a call. It had already arrived at their location and was simply waiting for me to show up when I said I would. They could have set my mind at ease by calling me when it came in, but instead it took me calling them. In the end, all was good.

I would have to agree to with the communication. It is very lacking and with the amount of money we are spending on these we should be getting more updates without having to bug them about it. I know they are a small independent business with a lot going on but I have worked in many small businesses and good communication is how you succeed and differentiate yourself in the market place.

You think this is bad.. try ordering a custom spec’d car. You’d think that custom orders were not the standard process in other countries.

I doubt this is the kinda custom car you are talking about, but it was pretty cool when my sis ordered her Ford Raptor that there was a website you could go to to track the vehicles progress. It let her know as soon as a VIN was associated to the vehicle and she could follow it. Eventually it was like FedEx tracking, said when it was loaded on a train, and where it was at and going, etc, all the way to the dealership.

Congrats!! I'm really jealous of the paint option, definitely want to paint mine someday. Been thinking of doing some kind of non-slip epoxy or grippy bed liner on just the top lid in case I ever want to get up there and star gaze and such, especially if it's icy out. But I need to research whether that would somehow affect gas mileage due to magical gnomes, or wind drag lol. I couldn't justify paint right now since it's already coming with expensive options I didn't want and had planned on doing myself for cheaper, but it's what the outfitters I'm going through already ordered (front and rear windows, carpeting, and electrical).

Yeah paint was a must for us with all the salt and mag that is used on the roads here in SW Colorado also it was one of the major things everyone has said they wished they did. I also thought about doing bed liner instead of paint but was worried about how thick it would be compared to paint especially with the tight clearances on the lid. The rough texture might be better for gas mileage much like a golf ball :notsure:. We did no windows but instead did hatches on either side. Windoors would have been a nice option instead but I think no windows will be more secure in some of our trips. We plan on doing all the electrical once we use it a bit and figure out what we really need.

I don't have any nice storage cabinets or anything in my Habitat, so I just try to organize as best I can when loading up with some milk crates and a big one of them yellow and black tubs. This means extra random junk often gets tossed on top of them. Such as our big kelty chair/loveseat, maxtrax, MX Helmets, and whatever else. I'm sure I woulda already busted out at least the front or rear window by now if I had them. Well, actually I just wouldn't be able to load as high in the truck bed... But how it is now, just a metal box, I don't need to worry about it. A little more piece of mind.

Yeah, I am worried how it'll stand up to all the crud on the roads considering that most of my driving with it will probably be winter; hopefully I can drum up the funds to get it painted early next year, all depends on how much I have left over from selling my house and paying off as much debt as I can, plus the huge list of other goodies I want for the truck.... lol. Sweet, a fellow CO member! What city? I'm in the Springs till the sale. I suppose I probably would've gone with the front and rear windows from AT even if it hadn't already been ordered just to make driving safer, but everything else I was going to do as I used it and got a feel for what I wanted and how as well.

Yep, I like the thought of the extra security from no windows or hatches on the sides, but having a view and being able to vent the unit would be nice too.... I guess we'll see when I finally get some time in with it. I think one of the neatest things about these is how customizable they are.

I am down in Durango. There is another guy in Durango with a habitat and two guys up in the Ouray/ Ridgeway area that have them.

If I didn't have the big tub I'd have so much more space. That thing is filled with three sleeping bags, two self-inflating camp beds, and a multitude of blankets. My wife is ALWAYS cold. I'd have been happy with just the sleeping bags, but I will admit everything else makes sleeping that much more comfy and cozy, lol.
