Is this Wrong?

If you haven't heard, Jimmy Buffett and others (Zac Brown Band, Allen Toussaint, Sonny Landreth, Kenny Chesney and Jesse Winchester, etc.) have announced a FREE concert in the Gulf to help stimulate the economy. Tickets were gone very quickly.

Recently there have been news reports that tickets have shown up on Craigslist and Ebay for sale. Ebay has banned their sale. (I'm not sure about CL.)

The Poll Question: Is it wrong to re-sell the free concert tickets?

I won't bias the poll with my own opinion in this post, but will be sharing it later, for sure.

 

hmmm...not sure how free tickets would stimulate the economy. I guess they think people will go there and then spend money? But probably it would be mostly fairly local people that go anyway.
It’s a good gesture, but they should have charged for the tickets and then donated the money to the cleanup efforts.

But, to answer the original question: Yes, only an ass would try to benefit off of someone else’s misfortune in a case like this.

If you're asking ME personally - Yeah, I think its wrong.

But this is America and people use & abuse every oppurtunity they can get to make $$. That's good to see that Ebay banned those ads.

Not a damn thing you can do to prevent that kinda of stuff. It happens everywhere for just about everything.

 

The tickets were available nation wide to try to encourage folks to come to the area....Planes, Hotels, Restaurants, etc in the Gulf Coast can use the love.

And yeah- It's wrong-It defeats the purpose and is a blatant attempt to capitalize on others misfortune, cause I have little faith that the majority of the folks who are selling these tickets will be donating squat.

I think it was STUPID not to charge for them in the first place. If you charge $50/ticket for that concert, you sell out. If you give them away, you sell out. One way brings lots of people to the area to spend money in hotels, restaurants, etc. The other way brings lots of people to the area to spend money in hotels, restaurants, etc. AND gives you $1m+ in ticket sales to donate to charity.

I guess they felt that less people would want to come to the area if the tickets weren't free.

 

Why would someone who, can get the tickets for FREE, turn right around and sell them for over a GRAND, that's just plain stupid...

 

To make a dollar is cool, But to make a dollar on someone elses misfortune, not so much.

 

I'm not going... I didn't get a free ticket, won't pay to go, and already have plans in ATL for that weekend.

 

1) Taking the emotion out of it invalidates the entire point of the event and the giving of the tickets- so that doens't really work.

2) Nothing is wrong with a commodity being traded. However, in THIS case-I would say it's underhanded and unethical to collect the maximum number of tickets possible for free, and then sell them. It's an artificial supply/demand creation for the sole purpose of profitting from someone else's generosity/work. The jamokes who got these tickets aren't doing anything but collecting something being given and "re"-selling it for an exorbitantly high price-tickets aren't worth it at that price.

But sadly- people are assholes and do things like that.

Yes! If it was given to you pass it on and give it to someone else. You shouldn't profit from someone else's gift. If you don't think much of the people who gave it to you give it to someone you don't really like.

 

That doesn't make it right for the folks who have taken the tickets to sell them. That whole "Two Wrongs" thing...
