Back in the day my Chevy Vega has a push start. I always parked it parking on a down hill slope . Gave it a little push to get it rolling and jump in , and drop the clutch and it would pop right off .

    Enthralling story.

OP I asked my dealer about it, and it seemed like the easiest route, but I'm fairly sure there's an aftermarket system available for it.

You could give this a look. I haven't done a lot of research on it, so I am not promoting this product or even recommending it, just saying it may be something worth looking at.

The advance keys product seems to be a better option over oem. The way it senses you and unlocks the doors and locks when walking away seems great. I don’t think oem has those features.

I need another key but perhaps this system is a better investment.

I guess I would have to drill through the dash to install the button module itself? Now to figure out a price to get this installed, I’m not too electrical savvy but the wiring diagrams on the website seem pretty straightforward

You could probably get the dash piece that holds the push to start button and an oem button, and wire it to the truck using that kit. Might be the easiest and look factory

Most aftermarket push starts I've seen require the key to be put in the ignition, then the button pushed. Basically adding a step. There's also proximity entry modules now, but still adding steps that aren't needed.

I wouldn't dare add something that may make my truck less reliable. Enjoy your simple SR and buy a fancy truck later on in life.

This is the only one I would consider.

I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on the advanced key kit with push button start. Gonna call a few shops to get their input first. Reviews seem good online too.

I am leaning towards the AK105B kit but am not going to rush into buying either. Gaining some smartkey functions to my SR5 would be great, pushing a button vs turning a key w/cover that stays in the lock cylinder all the time just makes it easy to undo for a trade or undo later for me. hmmmmmm

I started looking into the wiring needs for the kit. With some patience and caffeine I think it's easy enough for my inner DIY to attempt. Perhaps a Christmas buy or even black Friday sale buy.

Why would you add more complexity to an SR? You know what SR stands for? Simple Reliability. Keep it that way!

Ok, it doesn't stand for that, but it should.

My thought is the same reason someone would want to add cruise control. If it can be properly/safely installed, enjoy the convenience! I was considering for a Sport for a long time but knew I wanted to swap the head unit (for Android Auto) and would have liked some of the bells and whistles, but after a long look I went SR5 to save. Gaining smartkey features on the rig would be a nice add-on that I would pay $300 for. It's the accessible wants vs. the upfront purchase needs. I mean, I will not be taking a sawzall to the headliner and adding a sunroof....but this...this I would do.

OR stands for Off Road, yet many people mod an OR to make it more capable and meet their needs/wants as the factory set up does not do this. So, why not start with a "Simple" baseline and build to your liking?

Time to dig further into the wiring diagrams to see how easy this really is.
