Looks like a 16 or 17 grille, so no TSS.

Nobody knows if a phone was involved. And someone mentioned the driver shouldn’t have made it past sundown? Lol. The driver is a 24 y/o girl. I doubt anyone would say that if THEIR daughters were responsible. This thread isn’t gonna last.

The Tacoma driver knows. The police will know. They may already know.

Which is why I mentioned TSS to start with. I see people bitch about the system but I wish it had been on this Tacoma and prevented the deaths.

It's a safe bet texting and driving was a factor.

True. But in this day and age it is a plausible explanation. Time will tell.

I agree, I’ve mentioned this is why I don’t ride my bike on roads... because I’d probably get mangled by a texter, so I stick to trails. But this happened for real, and it’s entirely possible the driver was texting. But not certain. So don’t bust out the rope yet.

Maybe the crash mitigation hardware and software on the 2018s would have minimized this collision? We will never know. So sad.

This accident had nothing to do with the model of truck the 24-year old woman was driving.

About a month ago I noticed a school bus stop and the children cross the street without looking for cars at all. I am not saying this is the children's fault but four children got hit. Tell your kids to look...repeat...over and over.

Let me be perfectly clear here: I posted this here because I thought its a good reminder to be extra cautious out there. No where in my post was I insinuating that it was caused by a fault of the truck. Sure our 3rd Gens has its issues, but our dumbass society has far more problems than any vehicle will ever have. I have a 1 year old at home and I couldn't even fathom what I would do if this happened to us so I just wanted to remind others here to just keep an extra eye on the road. It could save a life or 3...losing a child to such a senseless accident is absurd.

I wouldn't want to be in that girls shoe right now. Having to live with that for the rest of your life will certainly take its toll on you

Correct depending on what they find is the cause of the accident, she might be doing some time in jail. I had a friend they got into a car accident and the other driver turned in front of him and the lady’s daughter died as a result. He was found not at fault, but still lives with the thought of what if he could’ve done something different today.

I don't think anyone here thinks it does. What is being asked by some though is if some of the newer safety technology that is available could have decreased loss of life. Obviously we will never know, but it's an important consideration when buying a new vehicle or deciding what vehicle to let your children drive. We recently sold a 2014 RAV and bought a new one with all the safety stuff for our daughter. Nothing wrong with the one she was driving, but the hope is the newer one might save her life or someone else's.

It's a discussion worth having, just maybe not linked so closely to this tragedy.
