Just mounted a new set of TRD rims with Nitto Ridge Grappler 265/70/R17 tires. Looks so sweet but when I turn, the tires rub on the front mud flaps, ughhh! I don't want to take the mudflaps off as I would like to maintain the paint job. Should I cut the area it rubs on out with a Dremel (essentially a couple of small squares) or use a heat gun to soften up those areas and flatted out with a hammer? I know many of us have this issue running these size tires so any suggestions would be helpful. Pics help too.

You could do the dremel option, you could lift it a bit..or your could look into getting some slim mudflaps made for our trucks when they have larger tires. Rokblokz sells some and I know there is another company but can't recall their name.

Would like to keep the stock mudflaps. I think they look way better than the Rokblokz. Any pics out there Dremel vs. heat gun?

Did you get a front end alignment when you got the new tires?

I didn't get a front end alignment. Would that make a difference? Difference enough not to cut?

Dude they're mudflaps. Just cut them up a little bit. Or try a heat gun and if that doesn't work, then cut them up.

It may, I know there are a lot of people who report no issues running 265/70/17 on stock suspension, meanwhile there are people like you and I who rub like crazy with that tire size on stock suspension. I lifted 1.5"~ and I still rub slightly on my stock mudflaps, after alignement

Pretty sure it’s tires rubbing not the mudflaps. But I love these threads.

    Probably not.

You can change to a slimmer profile mudflap, or come out to one missing like what happened to me on my 2nd gen.

Are the Trd rims the same offset as stock rims?

It is very common with the TRD Pro wheels and 265/70/17 tires. They rub just inside of the mud flaps towards the cab in the inner fender when making a turn while the front end dips during braking.

He should get tires and wheels that fit. Offset, UCAs to move the tire forward, etc. He’s blaming his mudflaps for his big ass tires not fitting. The wheel well wasn’t meant to be stuffed. It’s there to allow the tire to move when the suspension moves.

Mine rub at full lock. I'm running the Weather Tech's and I just live with it.

Yep, this is exactly what I’m dealing with now. There’s one high spot, so I may pull the mud flaps this weekend and hit it with a heat gun to see if I can make some room. There’s only about 1/16”-1/8” of clearance at mid-turn.

In case it didn't dawn on you, you posted this in the 3rd gen section, and it seems like you own a 2nd gen. Might get more relevant responses by posting in the right section.

It's the flaps. Mine did the same thing. Same rims, same size tires.

As I do appreciate the input, negativity need not apply. This forum is to provide helpful answers to Tacoma owners not wise ass comments. If you don't have anything constructive to add to the conversation don't comment at all...

you don't need a front end alignment after installing new tires, only if you have changed/modified the suspension.
