Well John that’s how you get a high clearance bumper. As I heard once on here, “embrace the suck” next you’ll get hailed on. I hope you’re OK?

I’ve never understood the purpose of building a truggy. By the time you are done you could have built a proper buggy, better, for less.

I’d like to know their budget if they really salvaged the truck and kept it simple I bet it’s pretty cheap. Where you go wrong is when you start to spend crazy money on suspension and driveline components. But if you keep it cheap and simple this would be a blast up at Gilbert.Plus cheap and easy off the shelf parts to fix it. Obviously going to need a trailer to get it to the trail. I’m building one when I move up north or out west.

Dollar for dollar, you can’t touch the capability of a buggy when you start with a truck.

Much respect for both camps, I have friends in both. It’s also something I’ll never build myself; rock bashing days are long behind me. I have friends that have built both, and the truggy guys tend to swap over the good bits to a tube chassis, and scrap what little was left of the original truck.

cold weather question for you guys......I get up north (Iron Range and beyond) often enough, so I go through the real MN cold.........Beyond the block heater (I've already got one) are any of you guys using battery heater / blanket / warmer things or oil pan heaters? I haven't looked into either of them myself, but I think it could be easy enough and pretty cool to hook up all 3 permanently and into a combined plug. That way when I plug the block heater in, the oil pan heater and battery warmer could be tied in and I'd be good to go. Looking for suggestions on specific aftermarket products because I don't think Toyota makes their own?

I don't have any - block heater, battery blanket, oil pan heater. I've considered adding one of those options, but realized I've never needed one, and don't now. If I do add something, it will be heated seats and Clazzio seat covers. Because I've come to realize, the only thing that needs additional heat when it's -20 or colder, is my ass.

Haha I hear you. Hard to beat the heated seats.

I’ll never go without a block heater.....had some rough starts at -25 in my last vehicle (Subaru) before I had the heater and even had a coworker lose an engine in a Tahoe because he kept hard-starting it

I live in Grand Rapids, MN, and park outside year round. No block heater, etc. Start her up in -35 air temp many times without issue. I do have a remote start, but even that rarely gets used because I hate to let it sit and burn gas.

I started with an oil pan heater but discovered they don’t do f all. Our oil sump sticks down so far and low from everything else it just didn’t have much effect until it got really cold then I noticed it warmed up a little quicker. But my frickin hands took much longer because all of the screwing around with plugs and bare ass hands. I seriously wish I had heated wheel and seats. That’s where it’s at. You can also use full synthetic oil to get extra protection for the engine. It stays fluid better than regular oil of same viscosity.

That's exactly it. I also switched to Amsoil Severe Gear in my transfer case and diffs because it has a wider temperature tolerance. So it stays more fluid at colder temps. If you're running the proper fluids, the cold isn't going to hurt the truck. Might make it hard to start though.

They only thing i use is a battery tender. My truck sit outside year round. If you keep it tuned properly n the battery is in good condition shouldnt have too many ussues.

If its the one i saw it eas a 95 pickup vin code j. Same truck as i got. They were imported until 96 when the tacoma fully took over. In 95 you can find the pickup or tacoma. Some think its a hilux but they had a different front end.

    Pics or didn't happen!!

The other weekend when I was up north with the wife we saw a righthand-drive Delica pull into Coho Cafe. It was pretty built up - lift, tires, racks, ladders, lights.... I think Mitsubishi is probably the worst car manufacturer in the world, but it did look pretty cool. Looked very top heavy though, especially on those tall AT tires.
