You can go buy a pallet of cement or sand bags at Home depot. Run your truck for a week like that then return the pallet. Tip given to me when i installed mine

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Because the deck plate mod is altering the original equipment.

The deck plate mod shouldn't cause you to fail because it doesn't move or alter any smog related equipment. But some smog techs are either stupid, or assholes, or both.

In that same logic, you are indeed modifying the original equipment since you’re changing the way the intake system was originally meant to function.

IMO it’s a gray area. I’ll probably do it one day, however I am just saying it may be a problem with some strict SMOG techs. I heard of someone failing SMOG because they cut their tailpipe a few inches after the Muffler, which causes no ill effect.

The tail pipe after the muffler has absolutely nothing what-so-ever to do with the smog. If a smog tech doesn't pass a check over that, you need to go some where else and turn the smog tech in to the CARB board... they are probably trying to sell you something, you don't need, in order to get your car passed... which is illegal.

Exactly. SMOG industry is a shady bunch.

I personally have never had trouble with a SMOG shop. My family has been using the same one since 1997.

Does anyone have stock 4.30 gears in the front?

Those are some idiot smog techs. A snorkel is not modifying the intake system in regards to emissions. Anything before the airbox doesn't matter.

Can't fail for cut tailpipe either. I'm curious what reason they put in the system for failing. I bet the tech was to fat to crawl under & stick the sniffer in.

My tailpipe has been cut off since 2005. Test Only stations never questioned it. Test Only is Star now but they still don't question it. However with STAR my truck doesn't need the sniffer anymore (2001 & newer).

That's very uncommon. Maybe only the 4cyl guys.

I thought so. I never found a 4.30 out of a Tacoma for my truck when I was searching for 4x4 conversion parts. I had to use a 4.30 front diff out of a 1996 4Runner since my Rear was 4.30.

I forget but I don't think it maybe only the 4WD Tacomas that are 4cyl that did not come with 265s might have had those. I've never seen one.

What’s the gear code on your VIN sticker? 4.30 should be B07A

A lot of 4 banger 4wd tacomas with the 5speed came with 4.30s. Auto ones sometimes had 4.56s.

Not nearly as common as 4runners though.

    Why?

Any TRD offroad truck with the elocker came with 4.10s. Period. And a lot of TRDs sold.

I’ve only seen PreRunners with 4.30 - never seen it on a 4x4

www.car-part.com doesn’t have the option for a front Tacoma differential in 4.30

I’m just curious. I had a lot of trouble finding a 4.30 front diff for my truck, and I never found one from a Tacoma.

I told myself I would put my bonus this year in to the bank and save it, but I really want to regear the truck lol

They are out there. But like I said, a lot of TRD trucks out there. Its only the non TRD ones that could have had them.

Nice, what ratio were you thinking?

I’m happy with the 4.30, never had an issue with it.
