So with hiking the AZT out of the picture for a bit I would not mind getting out and doing some wheeling to kill the time and still get outdoors. Looking for good suggestions on easy to moderate trails. Something a bit more exciting than cruising out to Sheeps bridge, but also something where body damage is not likely. Trails heading to a scenic payoff always a plus. Phoenix, Rim country and, Sedona areas all open to suggestion? Honestly prefer outside of the desert I'm kinda over the lower deserts at the moment.

I’m surprised, a lot of my coworkers are really going all out today. Here I am just wearing a Raccoon City PD shirt (some people did get the reference) and I am seeing Star Trek uniforms and stuff.

In complete unrelated news I am already looking at an RCI skid... this TRD skid kills a ton of approach clearance in the front, it’s on spacers that are an inch thick!

If only it didn’t look so damn good!

You'll loose clearance with RCI skids too.
I notice I hit more with them. Front sits lower than OEM.
Glad I had it last weekend though. Smashed a hidden rock pretty good.

So I have a pelfreybilt IFS skid, I know it was discussed a while ago about TRD skid vs others.

I noticed last time changing the oil that if I jacked up the truck using the skid, it was bending pretty noticeably. Basically enough to touch the oil pan. Is that normal or expected for a IFS skid on a tacoma?

I've owned multiple wranglers and never had a problem jacking up off an aftermarket skid plate, is this just inherent to the design of the IFS skids?

Edit: Might have been touching the front diff, not the oil pan, I forget.

The first part that should touch is the frame “knob” that is the designated jacking point. I’m talking about that vaguely boob looking thing that the stock skids leave exposed.

I’m gonna call RCI and ask them about jacking on the aluminum skid, if they design a nice tight clearance to the factory jack point you will get some minor deflection until the two meet. On the TRD it is very nice because this clearance is less than 1/8th or so, at least it looks like it peering into there.
