Say your other posts and I'm not picking on you but when we were at the dealer the other day I think only the Tacoma and 4runner are the only ones without it. Dont quote me on it though. I know the 19 4runner my girlfriend got does not have it at least.

Because when the driver gets off the bus, the little angels don't act like little angels.

I drove a student that murdered his father, a student that was murdered by her father, a student that threatened to kill me, a student that tried to choke me to death, a student that threatened to kill himself. Then there is the hitting, kicking, spitting and insubordinate attitude I got to experience also. Yes, no lie. That's not anywhere near typical of all school bus driver experiences, but leaving students unattended on the bus isn't a good idea.

TSS is not artificial intelligence that drives for you. It cannot prevent this type of accident.

By the time TSS could have detected an obstruction the truck would be hitting it.

Its impossible to stop a vehicle moving 55mph+ in litterally a split second.

These systems don’t work like that. It would be horrifically dangerous if they did.
Can you imagine driving on a county road at 60mph in the dark with a semi behind you and a deer runs out and your truck automatically slams on the brakes...

Yeah no. I’d rather hit the deer and spare my own life.

Auto braking is to prevent low speed collisions. Not high speed ones.

I’m all about capital punishment. But since no one knows the whole story yet (as usual), I’d like to see you put up and do this yourself, to a US citizen, a 24y/o. I have no kids and I’m pretty out of touch with knee jerk emotional reactions, but I’d love to see YOUR reaction when you carry this one out. You can talk about it, but I doubt you would do it.

Sure do. I see it every time I drive. People yield at stop signs and only look, never slow at yield signs. Stop signs aren't a suggestion, but a lot of people around here treat them that way. It's a shame and will continue to get worse.

I get so irritated when I see people blowing stop signs in my neighborhood, its actually rare to see someone come to a complete stop. Mostly people roll through them but often you'll see people just blow it unless they actually see another car starting to go from the right or left. Whats more frustrating is that we see the cops in our neighborhood do it too, but they'll gladly pull over anyone else who doesn't stop (as they should but they should also be setting an example). Drives me crazy.

I have video of a car blowing thru a 4 way stop with a cop witnessing the entire thing. He didn't do a thing. That's why it will get worse. Nobody around here is punished for it. I actually know the cop too and I'd expect more from an Eagle Scout. Disappointing really.

This tragic incident has ruined the lives of countless individuals including the drivers. Was it an accident and could it have been avoided? We just don't know yet. The pain the parties involved are feeling right now, I can't imagine.

That is a problem here also. Just a couple weeks ago, I saw a cop pull over someone for running a red light. I felt good about that, but then just a few moments later he was getting out of his car at a coffee shop. There was another cop car already there. I guess coffee and doughnuts with his coworker were more important?

I know they can't be everywhere and people are on their best behavior when they see an officer. I also know they have their hands full and I appreciate what they do. They might need to think about dash cams being more common place though and if something blatant happens, maybe they should at least pull the guilty party over. I don't even care if they don't give em a ticket. At least talk to them about it.

There was definitely a conversation, so there is that. He didn't stick around long enough to actually give out a ticket. The thing is that the particular intersection tends to be a dangerous one with stoplight cameras installed.

My pet peeves are turn signals, stop signs / stoplights, left lane camping, and distracted driving. I somehow feel that if those were fixed, congestion and most accidents would disappear and we could get places a lot faster. But, cops everywhere that I have lived are fixated on speed, most likely since it is easy to prove and ticket. Those others take more observation and work? There are a few intersections near us where they could make bank just writing tickets for running stop signs. Sometimes, two cars will go through at a time when there are folks already stopped at the three other sides.

In the end, I can only hope that truly autonomous vehicles get here quick for those that don't really want to drive.

I just read through the 2019 Tacoma Owners Manual chapter on the precollision system. Pedestrian detection appears to be designed for 7-50mph but there are all sorts of limitations listed. Size of the pedestrian being one of them.

Even if the Tacoma involved had the system, it likely would not have prevented the collision and deaths. Only safe driving by the driver would have.

Wow 28 people. That’s insane. I used to put interlocks on vehicles that the court ordered for some offenders. It’s amazig how many would try to drive drunk. Or you see people being repeat offenders. There should be 0 tolerance for that shit. Instead most get a slap on the wrist until something bad happens.
