So I just got my two, back from the second shot and it’s definitely driving much better. New steering rack bushing, welded cam eccentrics and replaced rear shocks with 5100’s. They told me I already have 12” of droop in the rear (13” up front) but I was thinking of doing a spring under kit with some Alcans. I’m wondering how much Gaines I would’ve actually realize if it’s worth it.

I'm curious how you have 12" of droop with 5100s.

I wonder if he is possibly using Tundra 5100's. They may have different travel numbers than the ones that are for our trucks.

What is your goal for the rear? Smooth ride? More weight capacity without sagging? All the flex?

Smooth ride and more flex, I want to be able to bomb down a trail at 35 to 40 mph and also Rockcrawl while maintaining a reasonable daily driver ride. I’d like to do some moderate over landing but I would rather sleep in a hammock than a 500 pound tent strapped on top of the bed of my truck.

Your profile says you have long travel, but that’s not what’s in these pictures. However, to go 35-40 on anything more than a grated dirt road, long travel is a good place to start. DMZ makes the most popular spring under long travel rear. Total chaos makes a mid travel rear that’s good for 12” travel but you have to relocate your rear shocks (and get longer ones)

I have a LT front suspension, the rear is lifted with some unknown rear springs and until now blown shocks. Just replaced those with 5100’s until I can figure out what I want to do. Actually the front is LT but had lots of bugs to work out, think I’ve got it handled. I took it out to test it when I first bought it, turns out the lower ball joint bolts were badly worn and the drivers side broke causing catistrofic failure, that’s now rebuilt and mildly upgraded. I also plan to box the frame but I’m also looking into options for the rear suspension. Hoping to be reasonably budget friendly and I think think a rough stuff spring under kit with custom Alcan/Diever springs may be the way to go. Honestly I don’t know a whole lot and I’m surfing the interwebs for info, I thought coming here would help steer me in the right direction.

Again, thanks to everyone for your input and expertise!
