K&N intake whistle

I know I won’t be able to stop the “take it off and put the factory intake back on” and “it’s a waste and doesn’t doesn’t do anything” replies, I just want to see if it’s just me. Between 2,100 and 2,300 rps, in any gear, I get a whistle, pretty loud too. Obviously and easily coming from the RH side near the box. This is only while driving, it won’t do it sitting still. I have tightened and checked all connections for leaks and it has not phased it at all. I assume it’s in the fender, anyone else???

 

I also have this whistle, I think it’s just the intake

 

Full cold air intake right now. Had a drop in previously and didn’t have the whistle

 

Same RPM or different range?

 

Haven’t paid much attention to the rpm range but I know what you’re talking about. Kinda sounds like a turbo

 

I liked the idea of that at first but then when it rides that RPM for more than a few seconds it sounds like like a busted truck.

Did you figure out what was causing this. I have a AFE momentum intake and it whistles so loudly.

 

I believe it's just the open airbox you have with the K&N intake. In my previous vehicles (2010 Sequoia and 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited) I've had K&N intakes and they both had that whistle. Just the free flowin' air man!

 

I was assuming that the massive gain of free flowing air was causing it.

 

I mean I kinda like the whistle that’s just what they do.

 

That is what they do. They make noise. They whistle. Every single intake I put on any of my cars did it. And I enjoy it.

 

It does kind of sing a song to you. Almost like having the seven dwarves under your hood whistling away.

Nope, still does it. With the way this truck clunks and knocks already I will probably pull the intake off and put the OEM back on. I am awaiting my OV tune to arrive and will make the final decision then.

 

Hmm.. I have the AFE momentum gt intake (put it on about 3 weeks ago) and there is some whistle around 2k RPM, but it's not that loud. Wife hasn't complained so it must not be that bad. Maybe my radio is louder or maybe I just drop the RPM's or hit the gas harder when it starts. It's definitely louder than stock. When I really step on it, it's very loud. I'm guessing it's the way that plastic housing resonates the sound since it's only when it's really high RPM.

BTW, that AFE CAI install was a PITA trying to put on that stupid seal. After 20 minutes of trying to get it to stay on, I put it on the truck and there's a damn gap between it and the hole. FFS AFE.

 

I have the af dynamic cai it makes the whistle sound too I was reading online and it seems tundras are having the same issue they have found a fix for it by replacing the throttle body gasket apparently the factory gasket has a sort of honey comb in the center and makes a loud whistling noise as the increased air passes it... I was wondering if our Tacoma’s have the same sort of gasket..if anyone know anything please chime in I don’t really mind the sound but it would be nice to not hear it all the time

 

Installed a TRD air filter and started getting the whistle personally I like it sounds like a turbo. So no complains

 

You won’t need anything else once you OVtune...the updates are phenomenal

 

OV Tune done. Made the truck bearable again. Still whistles but I dont think it’s as loud for some reason. I really don’t care at this point, Taco is going bye bye when they release the 2020’s an Army Green 4Runner or Tundra is in my future.
