How could she be 1) found guilty of charges of negligence then 2)charged with murder for the same crime?

High level (criminal law, not civil):

    1. Crime (or alleged crime)
    2. Law enforcement files a report
    3. Prosecutor files charges. <<< This is where the defendant is charged.
    4. Court - opening statements by prosecutor, statement by defendants lawyer, submission of evidence, examination of witnesses, closing statements
    5. Determination (usually by a jury but for lesser stuff a judge)
    ^^^
This is where the guilty / not guilty finding takes place. You can't go thru it again for the same crime, it's called "Double jeopardy".

Oh man you people calling for the woman to get hung or shanked in prison are just disgusting. Some nice Internet Tough Guy's in here.

She absolutely should pay, but the punishment must fit the crime. I don't think anyone is saying she planned and intended to kill these 3 kids. She stopped and cooperated with police. We don't know the whole story yet. There might be other mitigating circumstances.

Let the investigation process be completed.

She deserves punishment, but not death. This will haunt her the rest of her life and likely be far more punishment than whatever is handed down by the court.

There should also be changes to the school bus process. When I was a kid I lived in one of these rural places and the speed limit was 55 as well. We had to cross two lanes too. We had the signs on the side of the bus, but for any stop where kids had to actually cross the road and not just get on by the side of the bus, the driver was required to park and get out of the bus with a hand-held stop sign as well, and check the road and signal for the kids to cross when it is safe. That would have likely prevented this and is a very simple and cost effective thing to implement.

3 counts of reckless homicide. NOT murder.

I'm alarmed at the vindictive lynch mob mentality I'm seeing.

It has been rather disturbing reading some of these responses. Was this woman at fault? Absolutely. I’m sure she hasn’t had any food stay down for days and wants to jump off a building. It’s not like she is having shots at a bar celebrating this.

Mob Mentality and internet tough guy all wrapped up in a short video from mans best friend.

I can't imagine loosing a child let alone all of my children at once and not absolutely losing my shit.
I also can't imagine being in that young gals shoes and being able to cope with the guilt.
Tell your kids to be careful, especially tonight.

I’ll never have kids, my choice. I’ll never know that brand of loss. But I have felt loss. To muster the strength to, say, toss out Halloween costumes that won’t be used, no more of those memories made while you can hear kids voices echo away into the evening. I can imagine, but I don’t want to.

Always remember, 99% of drivers out there are idiots who feel like their texts/phones/whatever they do beside focusing on driving is more important than other people’s lives.

Facebook comments of people who live in the area are saying that she was on her way to a hospital because her dad had/having a heart attack.

Still, not an excuse, but something like that then you wonder, was she distraught? Maybe in, nothing is going to get in the way mode?

What the papers aren't really reporting is that she was the 911 caller, cooperated. Police let her go so that she can make arrangements with her family - she was notified that they would come back to arrest her and they did.
People are also pissed off about her making bond. Why?
She's got a family, works with kids, if I'm not mistaken, she's a minister or involved in her community. Her cooperation at the scene of the accident all gets considered so therefore a judge is not going to set an insane amount because she's not a runaway or flight risk. She royaly fucked up

Not to mention that for all we know, the kids could have ran out into the street without looking and contributed 50% to the tragedy.

We (the public) literally know nothing about what led up to or caused this accident, and should not be speculating about anything. Let the authorities figure things out and take the appropriate steps.

If you want to make the world a better place, become better than you were yesterday. Save the internet heroism for another topic.

In the local motorcycling community we would frequently discuss "rider down" events, some of which were fatal. The general, unofficial rule of thumb was to always assume that these threads would be read by the victims. You never know what a Google search will turn up. Ask yourself, do you want the parents of those kids, or the relatives of the driver to read what you're writing? Will it help them, or make things worse?

Lmao at people making every possible excuse for her.
She was not paying attention, whether kids ran out or not makes no difference.

This is terrible tragedy. It's a horrific accident and a reminder to all to pay attention.

We don't know the details yet but in this day and age, there is a higher percentage that she had a phone in her hand than not.

I used to go to a building on Miami Beach, on Collins Ave. The school bus would stop on Collins and drivers on their way to work would go around the bus. There were no kids crossing the street but that's not the point. I saw this every time I went there, eventually a cop started waiting at this location and would pull them over.

Sad world we live in that people can't wait a few minutes or keep their eyes on the road.

It only takes a second to change a life. In this case, the lives of many.
