Thinking of just replacing leafs with OME dakars. No other suspension upgrades on my '18 trd or. I have a big ole' topper with a roof box constantly full of camping shit so I have a bit of a sag and I prefer the nose dive look. Will this be a good thing to do? IMG_9506.jpg

yes - Dakars handle the weight much better.

You’ll over extend the stock shocks and be replacing those in no time as well. You should also look into rear shocks as well.

I've been across country 5x, three were in my old 93 pathfinder.....rip! The last east bound trip I stopped at arches natl park and camped without the rain fly on......tons of stars out and I was wondering why the hell I was leaving SoCal and going back to NY. Six months later I was back out west......love & hate both places depending on the category!

I need to get around some more.....I get side tracked going riding on the weekends and surfing if I get out of work early.

Before you get the dakars on, read about how to prevent the squeaking. They are awesome, but tend to squeak. New version may not be so bad.

my OME Dakar mediums added about 2.5 inches of lift, or more. Will take awhile to settle or break in. Be cautious, had a lot of rake (1.7 inches over front) even with my front fox 2.5 coils pre-loaded up.

It handles weight like a champ though, and still not broken in. Hopefully, if it settles a half inch, I can lower the fronts.

That pic is with a 260 lb + 300 lb bikes, + camp gear for 2, + dirt bike gear. All said, maybe 700 lbs.

I'd like my lift to be a bit lower (more closer to 1.5-2.0 inches) but I think its closer to 2.5? I never measured stock because I didn't care.
    Good luck with your choice.

No issues with squeeking. I was told by a reputable member who installed my suspension that the squeeking complaints were solved when OME added small bushings or rubber washers to their leafs. I don't get squeaks....yet

Install was done early Sept of this year.

    KM area?

How does it drive without anything in the bed.....and what do you have up front?

I like the way the short bed looks but I went with the the long bed to deal with all of that stuff.

Helix66, yes, K Meadows. My first time there, we basically did a short 2 day camp and scout out the area for future rides with friends and family.
We were the only ones there, as the temps were freezing at night last week. Perfect during the daytime though.

Truck Drives fine by me without a load. It's a bit bouncy in the back (per my wife, not me) but she said it has since gotten a little better. I'll agree, everything is a little more firm and stiff with the entire setup. Fox Stage 2 by headstrong (Which is the Fox 2.5 coils up front and 2.0 with external resi's in rear) + Dakar OME leaf springs. https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p193/FOX_Level_2_Kit_w/_OME_Dakar_Leaf_Packs_-_05__Tacoma.html

I'm a complete n00b to the 4x4 or Off Road world so take my opinions with a grain of salt. I do like the firmer suspension feel overall though. Way better over the boat feeling of a stock ride. (I'm used to small compact cars/sports cars/or sport bikes with suspension adjusted to the stiffer side).

I personally love the Long bed look. I rather have an Access Cab w/"long" bed + 4x4. But family life happened. Plus my garage is small and I wanted a manual.....It all worked out in the end:anonymous:

I had HD Dakar’s and stock shocks for a minute and it fucking sucked. Constantly over extending the shocks because of the added ride height. Then they sagged way too soon and light weight wise for their “660 pound” rating so I got rid of them. YMMV.

We usually go to KM memorial day weekend and the temps drop below 30* at night....makes me wish I had a small camper!

I think it closes down for winter soon. It’s a haul for me from south OC and there’s ewually good riding hours closer but the camping is beautiful there.

What do y'all recommend for inexpensive shocks that can handle the extension?

Also what is the difference between the two medium dakars for 3rd gen. I see one that fits from 05-present and that set is 430$ and then a set that is just 16-19 for 540$. Both seem to be Medium duty. Not sure what difference is which ones should I consider?

Nice truck! they are very similar but the EL096R is designed for a constant load of about 660 pounds, compared to the EL095R are designed for medium load of about 300-400 pounds.

Simple answer would OME rear shocks. With the OME shocks you won’t have to change anything else like brake lines or bump stops. Beyond that, there’s way to many options to list. Either do some research or contact a vendor and ask for their advice, then make tour decision from there.

I had a custom pack made by Deaver Springs. They will build a leaf pack to suit both your weight and lift requirements and were super awesome to deal with. It’s more expensive and a longer wait time but not hitting bump stops on every crack in the road is more than worth it to me.
