New Taco owner in Southeastern VA area. Temps are starting to drop and I have found that the windshield will fog up unless I have the controls set to windshield and feet or windshield only (defrost) button. If the system is set to any other setting the windshield and side windows fog up! I have tried recirculate and non-recirculate.

Is anyone else having this issue?

    What gives!

...which is why I have installed vent shades. Toyotas are typically "tight," meaning there are no outside air leaks other than the vents in the rear of the cab. I get in, crack the window (vent shades allow you to do so in rainy or snowy weather without getting wet) and my windows will stay defrosted.

Try using a good windshield cleaner. The techs when they pdi the vehicle they don't clean the "haze" like a film on the inside of the windscreen. So when the temps change it makes way worse. Helped on mine

I have vent shades installed...but damn that's the solution?? I cleaned the windshield with Stoners cleaner, but it still looks hazy. I can even see the suction cups marks from the factory.

Keep recirculate off, turn AC on. You want fresh air without moisture coming in.

AC with heat temp??...let's say 74. So dry heat? Seems odd...so the heater box and the AC coil are both on? Seems inefficient no?

Didn't ask about efficient. Want dry air in the cabin :)

AC means air condition. Conditioning air is removing humidity. The best way to do that is chill the air, so it physically can't hold as much moisture.

Then you get the double bonus of heating air that doesn't have as much moisture in it. Hot air can hold lots of moisture, so it absorbs water from everything it touches (including your windshield).

On a lot of cars hitting the Max Defrost button turns on the little AC light, most people just don't notice.

I live in the rainy rainy PNW now. Anytime it rains I run AC, I absolutely hate mold and this is doing the trick so far (knock on wood). Edit: I'm from Alaska so I end up running cold AC pretty much all the time on low fan speed unless it's below 60deg outside, still noticeably removes any and all fogging from my windows.

Ding Ding! The winning answer right here, in addition to installing vent shades lol.

What kind of vent shade do you have? Was thinking I want an in-channel one

I have had both and I prefer the stick on type from Vent Visor from a durability perspective. The in channel ones look better but I have had one blow out somewhere in a cornfield in Illinois and had one break on another vehicle. Never had a problem with stick ons though. Your choice.

I've found that after awhile I've gotten a lot of moisture in my cab, from wet stuff thrown in, dripping on the floor cause i'm drenched, or whatever. I can tell cause my windshield starts taking longer and longer to defog in the morning, or sometimes actual droplets even forming. If I throw in my dry-z-air thing for a week it sucks up the extra moisture in the rig, helping immensely.

No Recirc, and use your AC. Doesn't matter the temp. You don't see it, but selecting "Defrost" turns on the AC also.

When the defrost setting is on you can think of the AC as a dehumidifier, which is exactly how it's supposed to work and why you have those settings. Whenever it's warmer inside than out and there's any moisture you're likely to get condensation on the inside unless you have dryer air blowing over it.
