I was walking out to my 2004 Prerunner, when I saw this wire dangling underneath. It looks like it follows alongside the brakelines headed towards the rear, and it is wrapped around the suspension up front.20181031_075935.jpg 20181031_081604.jpg 20181031_083204.jpg

I'll have to take a look again and see. I tried to follow it real quick, and it looked like it went into the frame near the leafsprings

Got a camper shell? The leer dealer who did mine before I got it did a piss poor job of running the lighting wire. Looks about like that.

Follow the previous suggestions. You found one end of the wire that is cut, you'll hafta find the other end. If the other end is also cut (and I think it will be) then just remove the wire. ;)

That's a pretty cool custom wiring job. It's good that they wrapped it around the steering column a few times.

    Whatever it is, it's aftermarket...

Okay guys, sorry for the long update. Turns out it was the wire leading to the camper shell light. No idea why the previous owner did such a shitty job wiring such a simple light, but whatever. Thank you all for the replies!

That's a LIMITED EDITION thing from toyota.

Agree with fellow tw member, follow both ends and see where it go. Surprise the wire is still on there after being wrapped on the steering shaft.

Since I saw how dealer installed the alarm in my 4Runner nobody is touching anything electrical in my cars. For making my US cars legal in Poland I had to do some wiring (rear fog light and front markers) and looking at it you wouldn't know it was not from the factory.

Oh that’s ridiculous. If they were smart they would’ve tapped into a constant 12v source at the tail light harness.

What constant 12V source? Or you mean tail marker (or license plate) light? That wouldn't be wise to drain from that fuse.

My camper has it's own 10A fuse directly from the battery. My camper lights are taking about 6A (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...k-or-rysium-build.457350/page-6#post-19006966). Tail light circuit wouldn't handle it.
