Was there a one loss conference champ that didn't get in top 4 last season?

 

Was it not Bama?
Georgia beat Auburn for the title, I think?

They weren't a conference champion. My question is , was a there a ONE LOSS conference champ that didn't get in last year?

 

I'm with you man. I've hacked on my truck to sell it but eventually I'll have a second truck that will be a full size. Bigger interior, better towing capacity, and better MPG. There's no downside

After championship weekend:

Big-12 Oklahoma 12-1 IN
SEC Georgia 12-1 IN
ACC Clemson 12-1 IN
Big-10 Ohio State 11-2 OUT
PAC-12 USC 11-2 OUT

This is how a one loss Alabama without a conference championship got in, the two conference champs that got left out had TWO LOSSES.
If Alabama losses and Clemson, Notre Dame, LSU and Michigan win out then that's your top 4. Alabama will NOT get in with a one loss conference champion Michigan and LSU.

 

I hate the idea of anybody getting into the dance and sit home during championship weekend. That particularly includes Notre Dame and personally feel they should have to schedule a game that week since they opt to not participate in a conference- I'm not talking about a cupcake game either.

 

If I was a betting man I'd bet Clemson is the only undefeated team at the end of the season, well and UCF. (this is assuming the case of LSU beating Bama)

A 1 loss Alabama gets in if Michigan loses another game, even if they win the conference. I believe a 1 loss Alabama stays in over OSU even if OSU wins out. If Notre Dame loses a game, they're out. If the Big12 champ ends up being WVU (who would have 1 loss), Bama beats them out.

 

I feel like they do make it through unscathed, not saying it's a cake walk but I believe they've got things figured out now past the drama with Bryant. If Clemson loses then I think Bama is a shoo-in even with a loss to LSU.

 

I'll be watch Notre Dame v Syracuse on the 17th, maybe USC shows up to play on the 24th. I want Notre Dame OUT. I want to see Alabama, Clemson, Michigan and Washington State

 

I think Washington State is a 1 loss, potential conference champion, that will get left out in favor of a more powerful 1 loss team like Alabama (assuming 1 loss again).

 

If that happens then "College Football Playoff" will have a problem on their hands and will be rewritten, rest of the country won't stand for it. It was ugly last year, if it happened again this year there will be changes.

I think this is a good reason to not expand to 8, could you imaging drawing a line that far down? I can't differentiate 7-10 at this point, maybe at the end of the season it's possible??

 

I would like to see 5 conference champs play, #1 gets the by first week. I'm just rattling on at this point lol

 

I think if you go to 8 you ALWAYS include the Power 5 conference champs, then 3 at larges based upon rankings as they go now.

Example, if you used the rankings NOW from Week 10 as they are (assuming highest ranked from a conference is your champ), your playoffs would be:

Alabama (SEC Champ)
Clemson (ACC Champ)
Michigan (Big 10 Champ)
Oklahoma (Big 12 Champ)
Washington State (Pac 12 Champ)
LSU (at large)
Notre Dame (at large)
Georgia (at large)

guess what....that HAPPENS to be the top 8 right now.

 

shoulda said the same thing to Bama last year...

 

and maybe instead of just the Power 5 champs with #1 getting a bye... Just let Nebraska get some practice time in there as a "challenger"... win-win...
