Hmm I’ll have to look into those aluminum tanks. Ive seen the road showers, they look nice but I’d rather have it hard mounted somewhere. With how you have attached yours any issues offroad? Im thinking of putting a 3ft long pvc above each door. I have a pop up camper so it would sit just under that

I've been wanting to make one of these. You might consider adding a schrader valve and use a bike pump to add just a little pressure.

I'm stalling because I wish it had more volume. I wish there was square pipe you could buy as stupid as that sounds. Or a cheap 4"x4" rectangular tank would be sick.

I just ordered a bike pump and tire valve to give it alittle pressure

I just did 200 miles in death valley with it no issues..... didn't move at all

Heres mine... 4'' ABS in a simple oval.. Pressurized with On board air via a 20psi shutoff switch, for showers we run it through a tankless hot water heater.

Can you explain how your pressurization setup works? You hook your compressor to it and then what? Do you just air it up and use it until the pressure drops then fill again? Or do you leave the compressor running and tank venting through pressure relief valve? Where did you get the idea? When I was building mine I couldn't find anyone else using OBA to pressurize, and I just ended up putting a switch in the tank which has worked nicely but always open to trying different ideas.

My on board air hose has a clamp that holds it onto a schrader valve. I hook it up to schrader valve on the water tank and it pressuirzes it to 50 psi, where the pressure valve opens. When i use the hose the valve closes because the pressure drops enough and when i quit using the hose it reopens. Works great for hosing off the truck etc at an almost house pressure flow rate.

Edit: my viair pump is rated for continuous duty, so other than the noise its no harm no foul

Edit 2: when i pressurize the tank it doesn't hold pressure more than 45 seconds or so unless i use a flow restrictor (linked above) which kills the water flow. Thats why i leave the compressor hooked up the entire time and allow the excess pressure to blow off via the pressure relief valve.

Edit 472: i saw a guy do a similar build on the overland bound thread.

My airline also clamps on the schrader valve. However, I use a cheap HF inline pressure regulator that hooks between the outlet under my bumper and the air hose. But, I do have a tank so my compressor doesnt continuously run.

I have a tank as well. Mine runs all the time because it starts venting at 50 psi

I found that mine works great at about 8psi. So the pressure regulator handles it very well. For bleed off, I just have a petcock drain on the fill cap.

Yeah i bet. I was gonna do a regulator on mine, but my setup is weird in the bed and the regulator would have constantly been in the way, unless i put it on the roof where it would probably be broken off.

I have ordered some more things for mine I’ll post those pics when they arrive and I hook them up .... I have an in-line regulator coming to hook my Oba to and run at 10psi while using and I’m making a shower head also

So you guys both have an air tank and the regulator will be in between air tank and water tank? So the tank pressurized to (X)psi and the compressor shuts off, then you run the line to your water tank with regulator, output pressure is regulated to (Y)psi and as you use water the compressor cycles on to compensate for lost pressure in the air tank?

Im just curious as I spent so much time trying to figure out a way to make my Viair pressurize the water tank @20 psi. A regulator seems like an easy solution that I may have overlooked. The in tank 20psi switch works great but it is kind of vulnerable hanging off the tank where it is.

My tank/compressor is set to 100psi on and 150psi off. With my regulator, I can set post connector output from 1-150psi by turning the knob.
I didnt want to have to keep messing with it for other uses. So, I put the regulator on the line that is dedicated to the tank. This way, I have full flow with my other air hose.

I have a friend with a IH Scout that made his own tube bumpers out of some big diameter pipe. turned them into pressurized tanks. He also gets fire extinguisheges charged with water to blow the windshield clear. Pretty Much only uses it for mud, so a bunch of extra water weight shifting in the bumpers on trails on an angle may not be good. Just sharing :)

You could always look at the aluminum extrusions- you can get them in square and rectangle profiles and various wall thickness. They're available for things like architectural design, furniture, etc. I've thought about using stainless oval profile exhaust tubing and welding some caps onto the ends (well having it done since I can't weld stainless). It's not like you're going to be pressurizing these things over a few pounds, any more and you just end up wasting water.

Mine is different than @windsor 's. I feed 150 psi into my water tank via on board air and the pressure relief valve opens as needed to blow off the excess pressure.

Here’s my regulator and the cap I made I have a cap with no fitting added to it from when I’m traveling or wheelin I switch it out when I wanna use the shower or water tank..... i have a arb twin Compressor with no tank but it’s 100% duty cycle and I only run the reg at 10psi the arb cuts in on 100 and off at 150...... I’ll take pics of the shower head when the rest of the parts show up and post that then
