Of all the softails, the deluxe fit me best. I could tell before I even got out of the parking lot it was made for me. Seemed to have a shorter center of gravity, handled the curves well, and was at home at 80 on the interstate. I rode it multiple days/times and every time I got on it it felt better than the bike before and the next bike always felt worse.

It was a great way to really get a feel for all the bikes. I would not have guessed the deluxe was the one for me.

Im thinking about taking a trip up to NYC in the spring. Its a 6h car ride/300 miles. On my Sportster, thats 5+ gas stops.

Im interested in other bikes. But the cost of the deluxe is deferring me because i tend to keep a bike for 1-4 years.. not longer than that.

I want to take advantage of this 1 year trade in thing, but 90% of my riding is around town. Im starting to go further, but it's always first thought for me to grab my truck if im going more than an hour

As a current street bob owner and former sportster owner, make sure to test ride the new bike first. It won’t handle the same at all. You’ll lose a lot of the responsiveness you’re used to in the sporty. But the bob is no slouch. Definitely has more power all through the rpm range and can handle curves. Tight turns are it’s weak point. You’ll be practicing your figure 8s to get used to it.

I hear you on the cost. I have two Indians and would like to add another bike but I've just got too many irons in the fire right now. My plan is to look for a 2018 deluxe used in a year or two at a lot better price.

I might need to do that. Just hold out for what I really want. Or figuring it out in the process

Looking at used Harley Forty-Eights between 2010-2015. Anything I should keep an eye out for? Any changes in shocks, forks, or fuel systems between model years? Eying a 2010 and 2015 right now. Would like to stay between $5,500 and $7,500.

What kind of riding do you do? If only city then you're good. If you do a tank lift, expect 60-70 miles to a tank.

Commuting to work. Weekend rides within 100 miles. If I do more, like ride with my dad, I’ll trailer it down to his place.

I think they made a small change to the frame after 2014 in sporty's. Nothing that you'd notice or would affect the bike itself, but some parts aren't interchangeable between those years prior and after- namely passenger footpegs as me and @fatfurious2 found out recently. I'm hesitant to buy something that's heavily modified without really scrutinizing the work done to the bike. There are a lot of hacks out there that work on their own junk and don't know what they're doing. If I can look at everything done to the bike like wire routing, correct fasteners used, quality of welds, etc and it all checks out then it wouldn't stop me from buying a bike that's been massaged a bit. The same can be said about buying used cars but the main difference would be that if a car breaks down, there's very little chance that it'll send you tumbling down the highway.

If the two bikes you're looking at are more or less stock, the only thing to really look for is your standard oil leaks and maintenance records (if any). Other than that they're pretty solid machines. I still kinda want one.

Question for the few v-twin guys out there:
took a good long ride today (about 2.5 hours). This is the first time I've ridden that long on the new bike (2018 Street Bob). When I was almost done, my tailbone was hurting pretty bad. I've never like the stock seat aesthetically, but today's ride has me looking for comfort not looks. I'm looking for something with more lumbar support that maintains a low profile.
My two front runners are the Saddlemen
    https://www.saddlemen.com/index.php...ith-driver-ls-softail-harley-davidson&search=
    and the Luck Daves:
    https://luckydaves.com/product/2018-softail-street-bob-seat/

Actually don't even mind the HD badlander since it's geared towards a lower profile that'll help with my longer reach too:
    https://www.harley-davidson.com/store/badlander-seat-pa-16-52000300--1

Any other brands/models I should be looking at? or anyone with first hand (cheek) experience with any of those seats mentioned?

I don't remember. I just checked their site and they have super limited options for the softails. I'm going in for service this weekend and see if they'll let me try a few seats or make recommendations.

Mustang makes a very good seat, had one on my old bagger for years, very comfortable.
