Question for all you wood worker guys.
I want to put 3 pieces of hardwood that are 1x6 strips about 8-10 feet long on a wall in my spare bedroom to hang guitars on.

I want them sorta decorative or "exotic" woods. Like zebra, Burl
    Etc.,

Does anyone carry something like that in a 1x6, or will I have to buy an entire plank and cut it myself?

The strips will be lag bolted every 16in. And each strip will need to hold close to 70 lbs across the 8-10 ft length.

Burl you won't find in that size as it's a deformation of a small portion of the tree. Think of it as a tumor kind of. I would look at stuff they get out of the rivers from old school logging. Those trees are super tight grain patterns and the grain pattern is crazy. You can also try stuff like Bubinga or Brazilian hardwoods they have some really cool patterns. Bubinga is a exotic african wood a lot of high end sport fishers use them for custom fighting chairs. It's really stable, strong, and beautiful. There is a custom wood store around the corner from me that has all types of stuff. You can buy by the slab or have them cut to dimensions you want. Rough sawn of course so just add an eighth to all dimensions for finishing if you want a finished true 1x6

Purple heart is another gorgeous one.

I've already thought about that and honestly, I don't want to add anymore for what I budgeted for. That would put me in the range of some pre built modular systems that I've looked at.

Gonna try and get something up this weekend.

Yea. I was thinking about the wood they find in rivers that they make mantels out of. I bet that's pricey stuff. Maybe I should just go with mahogany or a modular setup.

Mahogany isn't cheap either. Plus getting some really cool stuff it really pays to be patient. I waited and looked at the purple heart for weeks until I found what I wanted as far as grain structure and pattern.

One of the Hi-Lift screws. If I have a chance tomorrow, I’ll get some pictures.

Also- like Skip- I like Brazilian Ipe wood. It is a Brazian Walnut- so dense and heavy it does not float! Love the varied colors.

Oh got ya yeah I would just block the tent up a bit to clear them. Then just get longer bolts to attach the tent.

I had to go get loner ones since the ones provided weren’t long enough. The block idea is good. What does everyone suggest I use as a spacer?

Ipe is sick I love that stuff. I made a couple of salad bowls from an off-cut I got from the Hardwood store. The one you linked it's like 5 min. from me. Love that place

A piece of wood will work temporarily. But I'd look to get some solid bar stock of aluminium.

Could check him out. I’ll fiddle with it some more on Saturday when I’m off and see if I can’t work something out before I have to go to plan B.

I wish I had somewhere around here to get some good wood from. All I have nearby is big box stores and a commercial lumber yard.

Heck. I might end up going with some of that 8ft flooring.
