just notice it on the highway. Speedometer just stays at 0, all the numbers on odometer have frozen. I reset trip a and it’s stayed at zero.

The cruise light goes green and works on the dash but it doesn’t engage and hold a set speed.

Hit a big ass hole in the road a few days before that bounced my battery out of place and ripped out the ground wire. The only thing out of the ordinary lately.

    Any one have any ideas?

Check the wheel sensor wires on each wheel. You probably ripped one of them loose or damaged the cable(s).

Would it not throw a code, trac or abs light be on if that were the case ?

    ABS light would be on.

Right rear controls speedometer, if you want, swap front right and back right ABS sensors.

    1 bolt each.

Doubt both failed, if swap doesn't help, I'd look elsewhere. Inspect right rear for oil and debris while doing so. Don't think that's the issue though.

Sounds like the cluster to me being no faults / codes. Ecu is seeing all wheel speed sensors or fault would occur. Calculation of speed is by wheel speed data sent via can bus to cluster where computation occurs simultaneously also in ecu also for mirror value. I believe trac control logic gets wheel speed data through cluster first. Cluster is getting data, just not processing it. That's at least how 3rd works an I think 2nd.

Okay thanks guys so here’s some history. 2 inch lift on 33s and the traction control tried to kill me many times so I had looked into the switch to kill the traction control and I was going to pull the abs fuse. ( I think that’s how the mod would have went).

Ended up getting pulled out of a creek one day and must have tweaked I believe the yaw sensor and boom no more abs and traction control so I left it with plans to do the switch in the future. That assumed tweaked sensor put all the lights on on my dash. For me for the time being it was worth not having to worry about the traction control taking over and pointing me into ditch or oncoming traffic.

That being said the lights were on the dash before this latest thing happened with the Speedo.

Thanks for all the help people, can get to this after work in two days.

When you say all the lights, you mean everything or just abs and track ?
Everything would indicate loss of can bus communication to cluster.

The lights on are abs, traction control, and e brake lights.

If canbus is disconnected to the cluster, all indicators go crazy.
Usually e brake possibly means fluid level. Immediate check. I don't know if e brake is canbus driven or hard wire.

I'm having a real hard time imagining a pothole that's big enough to rip your battery from it's hold-down yet NOT break any suspension components or cause other far more serious issues. Any more info on this?

Well it was more of a sink hole or eroded spot in the road. It was dark and under snow and I hit it at about 60 km/h. The bolt holding the battery in must have been loose already - shit happens.

Wow, you could leave it alone and the miles on your truck wouldn’t increase. Would help resale value a lot

If you go that route, Just need GPS speedometer :) what I use anyway, only accurate reading. Haven't really look at dash speedometer in years.

So I am back from work and had a chance to take a look. The right rear I think it’s an abs sensor has the two wires ripped out. So I’m not sure if this is the original issue that took out my abs and traction control and put the three lights on the dash, or the most recent issue that killed Speedo. Thinking the Speedo problem.

Does anyone know a write up on how to repair or replace the sensor with the two wires ripped out? I will get a pic in the daylight if needed.

    Thanks for all the help.

Junk yard, cut the plug, leave a good bit of wire to solder to, Soldering iron, solder, shrink wrap.

Remove the plug from the sensor, depending on how bad damage is, maybe solder new wires to contacts.

    Or new cable.

Pretty sure that's your ABS and speedometer issue.
