I've been chasing the cold rattle since last winter. It came back couple of weeks ago when temps dropped.

I've removed the center console, passenger side A-pillar, speaker cover, light sensor, and tweeter. Removed everything in glove box, removed the panel that covers the cabin air filter. Drove the truck around, still hear the rattle. I think the rattle originate somewhere behind / around the glove box, that thing is a complete pain to remove.

It is definitely 100% temperature dependent, usually show up if temp drops below 60, worst (noticeably louder) in 50 or 40 degree temps. Not sure what to do at this point, really hate working with my local dealer, they are notorious for "can't reproduce issue".

I feel your pain. The local techs here appreciate the work I did to localize and fix my ticking but they also highly believe it has something to do with the windshield adhesive. Was told they have heard this noise with Tundras and that was the issue with them. The tech had not heard or seen it with Tacoma’s yet. He mentioned there is a “loose pin or peg” (windshield guide or stopper, if you will) that can also be the culprit and takes “him” 5 min to remove and isn’t necessary to be there. My noise is gone but I do need a new windshield and I would get them to do it and investigate what my windshield adhesive looks like so they can make a determination. But with no ticking noise from my vehicle, they can only speculate.

One major problem however, if Toyota actually wants to take on your vehicle as a “test case” and get their suits involved, your vehicle must be put back to original. Every single mod you’ve done has to come off and original equipment put back. That’s lights, wiring, suspension air backs, big tires, lifts etc put back.

I fixed my A-pillar rattle last year. This fall the "dash tick" had been coming back when under 60 degrees or so. It sounded like it was originating from the plastic behind the dash/entertainment trim piece, so I removed it and it still had the tick. When driving, I found the dash plastic near the right side of the windshield defrost vent would tick. It stopped when I would put pressure on the dash when driving. I stuffed a bunch of felt under the windshield, behind the foam strip that's there between the windshield and dash plastic from the factory. The tick hasn't been back since!

The foam in the picture was there from the factory. I stuffed some black felt behind the foam, under the windshield. That's kept pressure on the dash and stopped the noise, so far!

I have a rattle coming from the same area (passenger tweeter/light sensor) only when ambient temperatures drops below 50 degrees and goes away after truck warms up in 5-10 min. I mentioned it to the dealer during other warranty work and they replaced the speaker cover noting it was a new and improved part and the end result was that the noise actually became worse. . . not taking it back. I will attempt resolution from success stories from this thread.

Holy crap, I thought I was the only one hearing this noise. I’ve had 2 Tacoma’s now and they’ve both done it. I’ll be using these fixes this weekend.

Man I found a new spot that makes a horrific squeak/tap noise at ALL temperatures. So I found the two plastic pieces (a-pillar and tweeter cover) would make a noise when it was colder than 55 degrees. Pulled the cover off and cut the tab that holds it under the apillar and it went away. Well about two weeks ago a noise returned to that area and I stuff micro fiber clothes between the foam and windshield and between all the plastic pieces up there and it wouldn’t change it one bit. Finally I decided to go to the outside and look. As soon as I popped the hood and started poking around the passenger side corner of the windshield where the gasket/weather stripping meets the windshield I heard the noise. So I took a thin flat head screw driver and moved the plastic piece with that gasket away and cleaned it with a towel and it was a lot better. I took some painters tape and put it on the windshield where the gasket meets it and took it down a bumpy road, Noise was gone. I took the painters tape off and used some black duct tape so it wasnt noticeable and put it all back together and the noise is gone. The good news is I need a new windshield so when they come next week I’m going to see what the proper fix would be to keep it from coming back. I attached some photos for reference. Hope this helps anyone else that may have the same issue and can’t find it.
